San Diego Loyal win 3-0 over LA Galaxy II

The San Diego Loyal earned three league points by defeating LA Galaxy II in an away match on Wednesday night.
USD alumni and Forward Miguel Berry scored two goals, and Rubio Rubin scored one in the first half for San Diego. The Loyal defense held off LA Galaxy II, and the match ended in a shut out in favor of San Diego 3-0.
The Loyal earned three points in the USL Championship and remained in fourth place in Group B with 16 points behind LA Galaxy II, who, is now tied for second place with Orange County SC with 18 points. The Loyal stand in fourth place with a 4-4-4 record overall.
San Diego’s Miguel Berry opened up the scoring in the match’s first minute when he met a pass from the top of the box by the left post that split two defenders. Berry struck the ball with a low directed shot to the back of the net and put San Diego up 1-0 in the first minute.
In the twentieth minute, the Loyal went up two goals, with a pass from the midfielder Jack Metcalf across LA’s penalty box that Rubio Rubin met on the left side of the net for a tap into the goal.
In the thirty-seventh minute, the Loyal took control of the match with a decisive third goal. Miguel Berry turned the corner on LA’s right-back defense-man and took on the goalie one-on-one, by the right side of the goal. He snuck a low shot under the goalie’s arm into the back of the goal. The Loyal took the 3-0 heading to the half.

In the second half, the Loyal stifled and frustrated their opponent. In the 65th minute, LA Galaxy’s Alvarado Jr was awarded a red card on a hard tackle against the Loyal. With a man up on the Galaxy, San Diego focused their attention on protecting the goal for the remaining twenty-five minutes. The defense held up to earn San Diego the shut out.

The San Diego Loyal return home to play Orange County FC at Torero Stadium on Sunday, September 13th, with a mission in mind to add to their 16 league points in the USL Championship.
The match starts at 7 p.m.
