Who is Dan Friedkin, the billionaire linked to a possible sale of the San Diego Padres?
It appears the San Diego Padres will be sold in the next few weeks to months.
Reports indicate that the team is taking bids until the end of the month, and then they will proceed with a sale through MLB offices. It is coming together very quickly, as the new proposed ownership group will want to have its say on a new collective bargaining agreement. The current contract expires on December 1, 2026.
One reported suitor of the Padres franchise is a second-generation San Diegan, Dan Friedkin.
His grandfather founded PSA Airlines and lived his life in San Diego. Friedkin’s father, Thomas, founded Gulf States Toyota, a multi-billion-dollar business. The Friedkin name has a deep history in the city. He immediately brings credibility to the idea of a new owner. Someone from the area.
Dan Friedkin is also a huge sports fan. He is the owner and chairman of Serie A club Roma and Premier League club Everton. Both soccer teams are well known and established. Friedkin also reportedly met with NHL officials about a possible expansion team in Houston. It makes sense that he is linked to the Padres- his hometown team.
Friedkin is worth roughly $10 billion and can easily afford the investment in purchasing the Padres.
The fact he has ties to the city may be the best option for San Diego fans. The 60-year-old would likely not consider a move out of the city and would continue the advancement of the Padres.

There is a lot of respect for the owner and his group. He brings a passion for sports but also understands the business side. He will invest in his franchise to boost the overall value of the organization. Friedkin would likely be a great owner. An investor who is deeply involved in his franchise. Someone who cares. A person like Peter Seidler, who we all know and love.
Not a lot is known about Dan Friedkin’s real interest in the team.
At this point, all we have to go by is speculation. But if the Padres are sold- Dan Friedkin is an excellent option for San Diego.
