A pair of separate reports came to light that San Diego FC is interested in Sergio Ramos and Kevin De Bruyne as star signings for their inaugural MLS.

Tom Bogert and Guillermo Rai of The Athletic reported the news on Sergio Ramos and said that SDFC is in “advanced talks” with the Real Madrid legend. Bogert did mention that “no deal is agreed or finalized” and that Ramos would be a designated player if he were to sign for the club.

Ramos, now 38 years old, is widely considered one of the best defenders of all time. He has a World Cup trophy with Spain and four Champions League titles with Real Madrid. The Seville native is also known for his goalscoring prowess as a centre-back with an exceptional ability at penalty kicks and headers.

The 38-year-old defender began his career at Sevilla and recently returned to his boyhood club this season, appearing in 25 Spanish La Liga games and scoring three goals. Ramos also scored a pair of goals in five Champions League games in what was not a very successful run in the European tournament. The veteran centre-back is Sevilla’s team captain and is a natural-born leader, who would be a perfect candidate to be San Diego’s first team captain.

The other report that came this Monday was from Graeme Bailey of HITC, who said that SDFC “are ready to launch an audacious attempt to land Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.” De Bruyne is still considered one of the better midfielders in the world and would not be coming over to “retire,” as many MLS critics put it.

KDB struggled with some injuries this season but still managed to score four goals and provide nine assists in 16 Premier League games. There are arguably a few, if any, players in the world that match the Belgian’s ability to generate offensive play, and this has the potential to be one of the biggest signings in MLS history. Bailey said in his report that De Bruyne would receive terms “comparable to Messi” if the Southern California club are to land the deal.

San Diego FC have been linked with several superstar players now and with the 2025 season quickly approaching, the official announcements have the potential to come this summer after the international tournaments.
