Padres Winter League Report: October 21 (Javelinas win in Arizona)
The Dominican Winter League was off on Monday, but four men were still in action throughout the globe for the San Diego Padres.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Arizona Fall League
Owen Miller– (1-4) Run, K
The infielder is hitting .161 so far in the desert. He played second base on Monday and broke an 0-for-17 streak with a 1-for-4 night at the plate. Miller is nearing the finish line for a very long year and will surely be looking forward to some rest time. There is a lot to like about his swing, and though his numbers were not huge in Arizona, he still has a decent upside to his game.
Logan Driscoll– (1-3) BB, K
The left-handed catcher is playing well right now and is hitting .462 in Peoria since being recalled after Luis Campusano went down with a hip injury. The catcher adds depth to the Padres’ ridiculous amount of talent they possess behind the plate.
Elliot Ashbeck– 2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 K (40 pitches-28 strikes)
The lone Padres player to participate in the AFL All-Star Game, Ashbeck, had a rare rough night on Monday. He allowed two runs in his two innings of work and now has a 2.92 ERA on the season for the Javelinas. Ashbeck is close to making his Major League debut and will probably be in the mix at some point in 2020.
Dominican Winter League
No Games on Schedule
Mexican Winter League
Rodrigo Orozco– (0-5) K
Orozco is hitting .316 on the year despite a 0-for-5 game at the plate on Monday. He batted leadoff and played left field for the Tomateros de Culican. The outfield has a .883 OPS so far this season in Mexico. Orozco started the year in Amarillo but was promoted to El Paso to end his 2019 season.
