Padres Winter League Report: November 18 (Tatis Homers in D.R.)
The Javelinas season is over, but there are plenty of players in action around the globe.
Here is your recap of the day’s action:
Dominican winter league
Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-3) HR, 3 RBI, Run, SB
The San Diego Padres’ number one-ranked prospect hit his second homer of the season and stole his second base of the winter. He is hitting .231 so far in the Dominican Republic for the Leones.
Francisco Mejia– (0-4) K
Tatis’ teammate in the D.R. is Mejia, who is hitting .333 so far. He has been catching for the Leones as he continues to develop his craft.
Manuel Margot– (1-3)
The Padres’ center fielder went 1-for-3 on Sunday. He is hitting .250 early on for the Toros de Este.
Franchy Cordero– (1-4) K
Franchy recorded one more hit on Sunday and is up to .238 with his batting average. The most important thing is that the outfielder has been pain-free in the D.R. this season.
Eric Yardley– 1 IP, H, 2 K
Yardley threw a scoreless inning on Sunday and is at 3.38 with his ERA for the season. The side-armed pitcher has been very successful in the D.R. except for one bad outing last week.
Diego Goris– (0-1)
The veteran minor leaguer is at .250 for the year. His playing time has diminished greatly as the rosters have expanded in the Dominican Republic.

Mexican winter league
Chris Huffman– 2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 2 K
Right-handed pitcher Chris Huffman was knocked around on Sunday, as he walked six men and gave up four hits in two innings pitched. His ERA is at 5.23 for the season in Mexico.
Gerardo Reyes– 0.1 IP, H, BB
This right-handed reliever continues to be perfect in Mexico. His 0.00 ERA is very impressive and it comes at the right time as he needs protection from the Rule 5 draft.
Venezuelan winter league
Luis Torrens– (2-4) 2 K
The catcher is hitting .167 on the year for the Navegantes del Magallanes. Torrens spent the whole 2018 season in Lake Elsinore and could start the 2019 season in Amarillo this spring.
Australian winter league
Kelvin Melean– (1-4)
The Padres are loaded with middle infield prospects. Melean is hitting .167 so far in Australia. He played shortstop on Sunday and went 1-for-4.
Jarryd Dale– (1-1) BB, K, Run
The Australian national is off to a .333 start on the year. He has been batting last and playing shortstop, but has been able to put the ball in play. Dale could have a chance to start the year in full-season ball if he continues his growth.
Puerto Rican winter league
Aldemar Burgos– (1-1) 2B, 2 Runs, BB
The right-handed-hitting outfielder went 1-for-1 on Sunday with two runs and a walk. He is off to a .333 start in Puerto Rico.
Colby Blueberg– (save) 2 IP, H, BB, K
The right-handed reliever earned his first save of the year for the Indios de Mayaguez. Blueberg has yet to give up a run in Puerto Rico this season.
