Padres Winter League Report: January 5
There were a total of five men in action on Saturday throughout the globe. A 1-for-14 day combined by all the players was not very productive.
Here is a recap of the day’s events:
Australian Baseball League
Jarryd Dale– (1-3) 2B, BB, K, CS
Dale played in one game of a doubleheader on Saturday morning. He is now hitting .181 on the season after doubling in three at-bats. He got the lone hit on the day for Padres players.
Michael Gettys– (0-1) RBI, 2 BB, K
Gettys is hitting .315 on the year after a 0-for-1 game with two walks. He has really played well this season in the ABL and needs to ride that momentum into the 2019 season.
Mexican winter league
Esteban Quiroz– (0-4) 2 K
The scrappy Mexican infielder went 0-for-4 on Saturday in Mexico. He has surprising power for his size and could be a factor for the Padres when it is all said and done.
Venezuelan winter league
No Padres’ players in action
Dominican winter league
Fernando Tatis Jr.– (0-2) BB
Tatis was batting third and playing shortstop for the Estrellas on Saturday. He walked in the game but did not manage a base hit. He has made some really nice plays on defense despite committing a few errors here and there.
Franchy Cordero– (0-4) 4 K
Cordero had a bad game on Saturday as he struck out four times. He has been in a slump for the past week to ten days, which is not beneficial as his Leones are in the heart of their playoff tournament.
Puerto Rican winter league
No Padres’ players in action
