Padres Winter League Report: January 18 (Tatis with Busy Night in D.R.)
Five players in action on Saturday around the globe.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Australian Baseball League
Jarryd Dale– (1-2)
The young Australian infielder is hitting .193 on the year after a 1-for-2 game on Friday morning. He has played sporadically the last few weeks as he has struggled with the bat for most of his time in the ABL.
Michael Gettys– (0-4) Error
The outfielder is hitting .297 so far after a 0-for-4 game in the ABL. He is winding down his year in Australia and could be in store for a productive 2019 season for the Padres. He will likely start the season in Amarillo or El Paso.
Dominican winter league
Fernando Tatis Jr.– (1-2) 2 Runs, RBI, BB, 2 SB, K
The all-world prospect was batting second and playing shortstop for the Estrellas on Friday. He was just named MVP and looks to be poising himself as a star player in the league. He cannot arrive in San Diego soon enough.

Puerto Rican winter league
Aldemar Burgos– (1-3) SB, K
The outfielder stole his second base of the playoff series and was in right field for his Puerto Rican team. Burgos has an excellent chance to develop into a viable prospect in the coming years.
Venezuelan winter league
No games scheduled
Mexican winter league
Esteban Quiroz– (1-4) 2 RBI, BB
The young infielder was batting third and playing second base in Mexico on Friday. He is hitting .435 this series and has shown a plus bat. The Padres plan to utilize Quiroz all over the infield initially during the spring.

Hey James, wasn’t Quiroz just acquired this offseason for one of our 40 man roster crunch pitchers we had to cut? If so Preller works his magic again.
Yes he was acquired from the Red Sox for Colten Brewer… great pickup by AJ
