Padres Winter League Report: December 6 (Franchy Blasts Second Home Run)
Franchy Cordero hit his second home run and Fernando Tatis Jr. continued to hit for consistency.
There were many Padres playing today, so here is a quick look at how everyone did:
Australian Winter League
Michael Gettys: (1-5), RBI, 2 K
Gettys struck out in two of his plate appearances and had an RBI single. He has raised his batting average to .326 on the season for Adelaide.
Kelvin Melean: (1-4) K
Melean has gotten off to a slow start in Australia, as he has started off 5-29 with no extra-base hits, no walks, and a .172 batting average.
Justin Lopez: (0-4) RBI, 2 K
A teammate of Melean on the CanberraĀ Cavalry, Lopez had a sacrifice fly to drive in one of four Canberra runs on the day. He has also gotten off to a slow start and now has a .233 batting average to begin the season.
Dominican Winter League
Fernando Tatis Jr: (1-3), BB, K, CS
After having a modest five-game winning streak snapped, Tatis rebounded nicely in today’s game with a walk and a base hit. He has a healthy .274 batting average along with an impressive .384 on-base percentage.
Francisco Mejia: (0-3) BB, E
Mejia’s bat has cooled off after a hot start to the season as he has gone 8-39 with no extra-base hits in his last ten games while making his second error of the season on a throw.
Franchy Cordero: (1-4) HR, 2 RBI, R, K, E
Cordero has been white-hot in his last ten games, and today proved no exception as he blasted a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his second of the year and raised his batting average to .294 on the season.
Carlos Asuaje: (1-2) RBI, 2 BB
Starting at designated hitter, Asuaje looks to improve his hitting craft in the offseason before engaging in a dogfight for a 25-man roster spot come spring training. He has played in three games and has gone 2-9 with three walks and two strikeouts so far.
Mexican League
Estaban Quiros: (0-3), BB, 2 K
After a strong Arizona Fall League, Quiros has stumbled out of the gate in the Mexican League with six hits in eleven games. However, he has ten walks as opposed to nine strikeouts and continues to show a strong plate approach.
Venezuela League
Luis Torrens: (1-4), RBI, R
Torrens has been off to a hot start of his own, evidenced by a .356 batting average and seven RBI, a total that he added to with an RBI single in today’s game.
