Padres Winter League Report: December 11 (Reyes saves 8th game and Quiroz homers in Mexico)
Here is your San Diego Padres winter league report for December 11.
A few Padres players were in action throughout the globe on Wednesday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
Dominican Winter League
Ivan Castillo– (1-4)
The small second baseman is hitting .260 on the year for the Leones after a 1-for-4 game at the plate on Wednesday. He has some versatility with his defense and could be a factor for the Padres eventually. He has great bat to ball skills with his swing but is surprisingly struggling a bit in the D.R. with making contact.
Manuel Margot– (0-4) 2 K
Margot is cold right now with the bat in his first week of play in the Dominican Republic. He is hitting .160 on the season after an 0-for-4 game at the plate. He batted leadoff and played centerfield for the Toros de Este. The right-handed hitter needs to find some consistency with his swing.
Puerto Rican Winter League
No players in action
Mexican Winter League
Esteban Quiroz– (1-4) HR, RBI, Run, K
Quiroz is batting .219 on the season for Los Mochis in the Mexican winter league. He was playing second base on Wednesday and powered a solo homer in the 4th inning of the game. The blast is his third homer of the season.
Gerardo Reyes– (Save) 1 IP, H, R, BB, K
Reyes now has a 1.64 ERA in Mexico after earning his 8th save on Wednesday for the Yaquis de Obregon. The right-handed pitcher is throwing in the upper 90s and has looked well this winter season.
Australian Baseball LeagueĀ
Taylor Kohlwey– (1-3) 2B, RBI, BB, Run
He is hitting .231 on the year after a 1-for-3 day at the plate for the Canberra Cavalry.
Jonny Homza– (1-3) HR, RBI, Run
He is hitting .216 on the year. Homza played third base on Wednesday night/Thursday morning for Auckland.
