Coming into the game on Tuesday, the San Diego Padres were 5-0 in the season.
You could not ask for anything better if you are a Padres fan. The team is clicking on all cylinders right now, as the Padres are dominating in virtually every facet of the game.
On Tuesday, Michael King took the mound and was baffling to the Guardians’ hitters as he K’d 11 batters in five innings of work. The pitch count doomed King, who took 88 pitches to go five frames. He allowed two hits and walked one batter on the night. “Michael was good. He got better as he went,” manager Mike Shildt said after the game.
Logan Allen took the mound for the Guardians and looked like the second coming of Randy Jones early on in the game. The soft-tossing lefty worked extremely fast and threw strikes early, but the Padres still got to him in the game. The southpaw worked 5.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. He walked five in the game, and that is what ultimately doomed him as wildness took hold late in the contest.
Jackson Merrill got the scoring off for the Padres with his first homer of the 2025 season. ” I am always looking to hit. I am not a walker,” Merril proclaimed after the game.

With the score 4-0 through six innings, the contest turned into a bullpen game.
The Padres came into the game having only allowed one earned run in 20 innings pitched. The unit has been dominating early for San Diego.
They continued their streak on Tuesday as Jeremiah Estrada, Yuki Matsui, Jason Adam, and Omar Cruz handled the Cleveland lineup with ease. The four pitchers allowed two walks in the game in four innings of work. That was it. “The bullpen was on point,” Shildt said in the postgame presser.
Cruz was making his debut in the majors and struck out Nolan Jones to record his first out. He went 1-2-3 in the ninth. It was a great moment for the young pitcher from Mexico.
The Padres won 7-0 in a game that Cleveland was never really in. The Padres continued their dominance on the baseball field. They are 6-0 on the year. “We are all having fun,” Merril said after the game.
San Diego is doing the little things to win games right now. They sacrifice runners and move them along while putting in quality at-bats to finish the situation. It is refreshing to see the team take extra bases and be aggressive on the base paths. The Padres stole three bases on Tuesday. “We look to beat them a lot of different ways,” Mike Shildt said after the game.
It is early, but the Padres are playing impressive baseball in the 2025 season.
The two teams will meet on Wednesday afternoon to finish off their three-game set.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:10 pm.
Dylan Cease will be on the mound for the Padres. Ben Lively will toe the runner for Cleveland.
