In a pretty standard spring training game, the San Diego Padres lost to the Texas Rangers 4-1.

Fresh off his outstanding outing against Great Britain, Randy Vasquez turned in a respectable start with 4.0 innings pitched, three hits, two-earned runs, as well as two strikeouts and walks.

Likely Opening Day bullpen arms David Morgan and Jeremiah Estrada pitched an inning and gave up no hits, while Adrian Morejon gave up a run and two hits. Minor leaguer Luis Gutierrez replaced Vasquez and had a solid two innings in his first MLB spring action, allowing a run and a hit.

Unfortunately, the problem was in the offense as the Padres combined for fewer runs than either teammate Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. had individually against Israel on Monday in the WBC.

I'd like this amount to

The Padres ended up with only four hits on the day, one each from Jake Cronenworth, Ty France, Luis Campusano, and minor leaguer Nate Mondou. The team couldn’t get anything going against anyone from the Rangers, but did end up with two errors as well.

The Padres fell to 8-9 on the spring and will play the Los Angeles Angels in Tempe on Tuesday at 1:10 pm.
