Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 94 with Mike Petriello of Statcast
The San Diego Padres have an interesting team. Analytically speaking, they have many players that are fascinating.
So who better to talk to than Statcast guru Mike Petriello of MLB.com?
We bring Mike in to speak about all things San Diego Padres. It turns out he is a fan of sorts as his brother lives in North Park. Who would have known? He gets some inside info on the team, and perhaps that is why we get plenty of articles from him on the team.
We first speak about the Eric Hosmer signing and get his impression of how Hosmer has played so far in the 2018 season. Mike tells his thoughts on the signing at first and how it is looking for the Padres in the long run. Pretty interesting thoughts here.
We speak about Franchy Cordero, who Mike describes as “runs like Dee Gordon and hits like Joey Gallo“. Cordero continually hits the ball harder than most in the league, and Mike tells us a little bit more about Franchy and his incredible stats.
We learn about Statcast and the latest things they are working on, as Patrick asks Mike for a little glimpse into the future.
Brad Hand should have some value this coming trade season and we ask Mike about the reliever. He tells us that Hand’s numbers still look valuable, and despite a few hiccups this season, he is still a top-notch reliever.
We also hit on Joey Lucchesi and Christian Villanueva as Mike gives us some thoughts on each potential NL Rookie of the Year.
It was awesome having Mike on the show. We hope to have him again soon.
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you for the listen.
