Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 33 with James & Patrick
Another week, another solo show with just the two of us.
It look like we will continue with this format for the near future, as we received some positive feedback.
In this week’s show, we discuss the current Padres situation and the addition of Matt Szczur, who the club traded for Monday. We discuss Szczur and his abilities, and what his addition means for the current Padres 25-man squad.
Hunter Renfroe has been a recent hot topic among fans, and the rookie outfielder is discussed in-depth between the two of us.
The emergence of Trevor Cahill is something we delve into, as he continues to rack up the strikeouts and perform like the teams’ ace. Cahill is on a one-year deal, so his trade value could be something to keep an eye on moving forward.
In the analytic portion of the show we discuss DEF, which Patrick prefers over UZR and DRS to determine true value of a defensive player. Both Renfroe and Wil Myers have had rough starts to their 2017 campaign as far as defense goes. We crunch the numbers, and discuss their defensive issues.
The Padres have three Rule-5 guys on the roster and we talk about each player in detail. We both agree that a change needs to take place.
Joey Lucchesi has been pitching lights out and he is discussed in the minor league portion of the show. Dinelson Lamet is also a pitcher we talk about. The young right-hander has been off to a great start in Triple-A, but we both agree his time is not now.
We will be back in the next few days with a new show, featuring a guest. Be on the look out for that, and like always…. if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let us know. Go Padres!
