Padres minor league affiliates opened the week with a 1-1 finish.

Here is our daily recap of games played, along with the weekly roster roundup.

Roster Roundup

  • The El Paso Chihuahuas saw a trio of players join them for the stretch run. Infielder Francisco Acuna, outfielder Moises Gomez, and right-hander Victor Lizarraga joined the Chihuahuas, all coming from the Double-A San Antonio Missions.
  • San Antonio (Double-A) also saw three players join their roster. Left-hander Luis Gutierrez, right-hander Johan Moreno, and infielder Eguy Rosario joined the Missions after the conclusion of the High-A regular season.

Onto the games!

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 15-7 vs Albuquerque) (74-64 on the season)

Trenton Brooks – 2-for-3, Home Run, Three RBI

Marcos Castanon – 1-for-3, Home Run, Three RBI

Jackson Wolf – 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 5 BB, 8 K (86 pitches – 48 strikes)

El Paso’s offense provided the fireworks in a 15-7 win over Albuquerque. Marcos Castanon continues to hit with authority, as he launched a three-run home run to left field in the win. Castanon’s home run was absolutely demolished, with an exit velocity of 105.5 mph. Castanon was not the only member of the Chihuahuas to homer in the win. Tirso Ornelas hit his ninth homer of the season, and Trenton Brooks launched his 15th homer of the season with El Paso (and 16th overall) in the third inning. Francisco Acuna hit his first double at Triple-A, driving in two runs.

Jackson Wolf pitched four innings, holding the Isotopes to two hits. However, Wolf issued five walks in the game, but only two runs scored against the left-hander. Wolf was in command throughout, generating 11 whiffs on 36 swings and allowed only one hard-hit ball in play. MIsael Tamarez pitched three innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and two homers, but with the Chihuahuas’ offense firing on all cylinders, Tamarez kept the team in it. Bradgley Rodriguez struggled with his command, throwing only 7 of his 22 pitches for strikes and allowing two runs on three walks. Sean Reynolds earned the win by recording the final four outs of the game,

San Antonio Missions (Lost 7-5 vs Springfield) (63-69 on the season)

Romeo Sanabria – 3-for-5, Two-Run Home Run

Albert Fabian – 1-for-5, Home Run

Jagger Haynes – 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 1 K (60 pitches – 32 strikes)

Left-hander Jagger Haynes pitched three innings of three-run baseball against Springfield, but his command was not in its usual form. Haynes walked four batters while striking out only one. Haynes’ struggles materialized with two outs in the second, as two walks, a double steal, and a wild pitch scored the Cardinals’ first run. Springfield’s Ramon Mendoza dropped a two-run single to left field in front of a charging Albert Fabian to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. Fabian cut into the deficit with a solo homer in the third inning. After Haynes departed, Fernando Sanchez entered the game, but allowed three singles and two walks. The left-hander was ultimately charged with four runs while recording only one out. Josh Mallitz threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one.

Romeo Sanabria brought the Missions within slam range with a two-run homer, scoring Braedon Karpathios ahead of him. Christopher Sargent hit his first pro double to reach base, scoring on an RBI single by Damon Dues. Sanabria would score again, this time on an RBI double off the bat of Ryan Jackson in the seventh. It was Jackson’s first double at Double-A, and his 19th overall this season. Garrett Hawkins struck out three in two innings of work, and his 11.95 K/9 is his highest in a season where he has thrown at least 50 innings (58 IP this season). Harry Gustin fired a scoreless ninth inning, working around two baserunners. The Missions threatened in the eighth, but Braedon Karpathios sharply lined into an unassisted double play to end the Missions’ scoring threat. San Antonio went down 1-2-3 in the ninth to seal the loss.
