Padres affiliates went 2-1 on Sunday, with one affiliate playing their season finale.
Let’s jump right into the games’ events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 7-0 vs Las Vegas) (56-82 on the season)
Will Wagner – 2-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI
Nick Solak – 3-for-4, Double, RBI

Evan Fitterer – 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (74 pitches – 43 strikes)
El Paso’s pitching staff dominated the Aviators in the team’s shutout win. Evan Fitterer pitched four innings of hitless baseball. The right-hander struck out three batters while issuing just one walk. Fitterer generated 11 swings and misses on 32 swings, a 34.4% whiff rate. He also held Aviators hitters to a miniscule 0.081 xWOBA on contact. Logan Gillaspie earned the win with two scoreless innings. Daison Acosta allowed two hits in two scoreless innings, not recording a strikeout. Jose Leclerc pitched a scoreless ninth despite loading the bases with two outs.
Will Wagner had the team’s biggest hit of the game, putting the exclamation mark on a Chihuahuas win with a three-run home run. Wagner reached base twice in the game, also scoring a run. Nick Pratto opened the scoring in the fourth inning, grounding an RBI single to score Carlos D. Rodriguez. The team’s six-run fifth inning started with an RBI single by Nick Solak, scoring Clay Dungan. Rodriguez’s RBI single scored Mason McCoy, and Marcos Castanon’s RBI single scored Solak from third. This set the stage for Wagner’s three-run home run.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 5-1 vs Midland) (58-74 on the season)
Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-3, Double, Walk
Albert Fabian – 2-for-4, Double
Jamie Hitt – 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 6 K (84 pitches – 48 strikes)
Jamie Hitt threw five innings of three-run baseball in the Missions’ final home game of the season. The left-hander struck out six batters while walking four, with a 2-2 split of groundouts and flyouts. Hitt led the way with 11 swings and misses generated from Midland hitters. The left-hander’s first professional season likely has one remaining start, and he has struck out 10 in his last two starts. Harry Gustin allowed a two-run home run in the seventh inning, but also struck out four of eight batters faced. Johan Moreno struck out two batters in a scoreless eighth inning, and Francis Pena fanned two of three batters faced in the ninth inning.
The Missions scored just one run in the contest, coming on a sacrifice fly from Romeo Sanabria. Sanabria’s sacrifice fly scored Oswaldo Linares, who went 0-for-2 with a walk. Braedon Karpathios went 2-for-3 with a double, and on the series as a whole, he went 14-for-22 with five extra-base hits and a 1.712 OPS. Albert Fabian went 2-for-4 with a double. Ryan Jackson reached base twice in the contest, and Jack Costello hit a single in four at-bats. Alex McCoy drew a walk in the game, extending his recent on-base streak to eight games.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 10-3 in 11 innings vs Lansing) (56-74 on the season)
Rosman Verdugo – 1-for-6, Grand Slam
Yimy Tovar – 3-for-4, Home Run, Double, Three RBI
Carson Montgomery – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (9 pitches – 5 strikes)
Jack Pineau – 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (21 pitches – 16 strikes)
Fort Wayne’s season finale went into extra innings, and the team lovingly known as the Comeback Caps all season long pulled off one more for the road. Carson Montgomery started for the TinCaps in what was planned as a one-inning outing, and the right-hander closed out his season with one strikeout in one inning. Brandon Langley threw two scoreless innings in relief, striking out two batters and not allowing a hit. Sean Barnett threw 1.2 innings, allowing two runs. The right-hander touched 99 mph on his fastball while showing off a 94-95 mph cutter with solid vertical movement. Will Koger pitched 1.1 innings in relief, and while he gave up two hits, Lamar King Jr and Dylan Grego helped him get out of a jam, cutting down a runner at home on a double steal attempt. Jeferson Villabona allowed an unearned run on a wild pitch and stolen base combo, but Lamar King Jr ended the Lansing rally by throwing out another stolen base attempt. Right-hander Jack Pineau pitched the final three innings, and while the right-hander did not strike out a batter, he recorded nine outs in play while not allowing a runner to get to third base.
The TinCaps used a seven-run rally in the eleventh inning to earn a win. The team was held scoreless through the first six innings, scoring two in the seventh inning. Yoiber Ocopio scored the team’s first run on a double to deep center field by Yimy Tovar. Ocopio slipped while rounding third, and the back-pick attempt by catcher Bryan Arendt was errant, which allowed Ocopio to score. Dylan Grego grounded out to score Tovar, as Tovar moved to third on the error. Kasen Wells and Ryan Gerety walked to open the eighth inning, but were left stranded on base. Fort Wayne tied the game in the ninth inning, as Yoiber Ocopio singled again, scoring on a triple off the center field wall off the bat of Dylan Grego. Both teams traded zeroes in the tenth before Fort Wayne scored seven in the top of the eleventh. With two runners on, Yimy Tovar crushed a three-run home run to left field, his first home run at the level. Two singles and a walk later, Rosman Verdugo crushed a knee-high fastball to left field for a grand slam, his 15th home run of the season. As noted by TinCaps broadcasters Jaden Taylor and Andy Jachim, this could likely be Verdugo’s final game in Fort Wayne as he is likely to open 2027 at Double-A, and the home run was his 29th as a TinCap. This places him 5th all time in TinCaps franchise history.

With the TinCaps season over, I’d like to extend a warm thank you to the broadcast crew, players, coaching staff, and all members of the Fort Wayne TinCaps organization for yet another season of TinCaps baseball. None of what we do happens without any of you, so from out EVT Padres staff, thank you so much for your hard work, and we look forward to continue covering the team through the offseason and into 2027 and beyond.
Lake Elsinore Storm – Cancelled due to Wet Grounds vs Inland Empire
The Lake Elsinore Storm’s season finale was cancelled due to wet grounds, partly due to rain and partly due to the active El Nino climate pattern gracing Southern California. As a result, the Storm wrap up their regular season with a 66-65 cumulative record (27-38 in the second half), and will travel to Ontario, California to open up the postseason.
The Storm face the Ontario Tower Buzzers (Dodgers Single-A) in a three-game California League Division Series, with the winner facing the winner of the California League North Division Series (Stockton vs San Jose) in the California League finals.
