Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Saturday.

Let’s dive right into the games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 9-7 vs Las Vegas) (55-82 on the season)

Mason McCoy – 3-for-5, Triple, Three RBI

Nick Solak – 3-for-5, Double, Two RBI

Sean Boyle – 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 K (93 pitches – 61 strikes)

El Paso’s lineup delivered a 7-for-16 success rate with runners in scoring position in a 9-7 win that was much more dominant than the final result would point to. The Chihuahuas took a 2-1 lead in the first inning as Nick Solak grounded an RBI single to tie the game. Will Wagner worked a walk to wrangle the lead into El Paso’s hands, 2-1. Though the Aviators took a 3-2 lead in the second, a four-run third put Chico and the Chihuahuas in the driver’s seat. Marcos Castanon hit an RBI single, and Wagner’s RBI single put the team up 4-3. Mason McCoy’s two-run single made it a three-run advantage. Nick Solak and Nick Pratto hit RBI doubles in the sixth to add on two runs, and Mason McCoy’s RBI triple scored the ninth and final run.

Sean Boyle threw five innings of three-run ball, earning his tenth win of the season. Boyle struck out three batters in his start, recording seven outs on ground balls. Boyle walked only two batters, and the sidewinding sinkerballer’s approach allowed him to keep the ball in the ballpark. Brent Honeywell Jr threw a scoreless sixth inning, striking out two batters. Alek Jacob threw the seventh inning, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk. Hunter Stratton pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two batters and earning his first save as a member of the Chihuahuas.

A fun note from tonight’s result: Sean Boyle became the first Chihuahuas pitcher to earn 10 wins since the 2019 season. The last El Paso arms to accomplish said mark all came in 2019, being Dillon Overton, Jerry Keel, and Dietrich Enns.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 10-2 vs Midland) (58-73 on the season)

Albert Fabian – 2-for-4, Two Doubles, RBI

Romeo Sanabria – 1-for-4, RBI Double

Eric Yost – 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 K (86 pitches – 49 strikes)

San Antonio’s offense went almost silent in the team’s Saturday loss to Midland. Albert Fabian had two doubles in the game, driving in one of the two runs. Fabian was one of three Missions hitters with two hits in the game. Jack Costello hit two singles, scoring a run on Fabian’s RBI double in the eighth inning. Alex McCoy had two hits as well, hitting two singles and scoring on an RBI double from Romeo Sanabria. For Sanabria, his RBI double in the third inning was his 21st double of the season with San Antonio.

Eric Yost started for the Missions, allowing four runs in four innings. Yost did not allow a home run in the game, but the four runs allowed were the most he had allowed at The Wolff this season. Even with this outing and his Triple-A debut (5 ER in 3.1 IP), Yost has a 3.35 ERA in 11 games (eight starts, three long relief outings) at home. The right-hander struck out six batters, walking just two. Bernard Jose struggled in relief, allowing six runs (five earned) in two innings. Igor Gil allowed two extra-base hits but no runs in two innings of relief, and Wyatt Hoffman allowed no runs in the ninth inning.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 4-1 vs Lansing) (55-74 on the season)

Kerrington Cross – 4-for-4, Three Doubles, Two RBI

Robbie Lavey – 1-for-3, Double

Winyer Chourio – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K (88 pitches – 45 strikes)

Winyer Chourio pitched five scoreless innings in a win over Lansing, closing out his season in strong form. The right-hander struck out six batters in his five innings, and he was able to work around four walks. Chourio gave up just three hits, none of which resulted in extra bases. In his last five outings of the season, the 22-year-old pitched to a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings. Javier Chacon threw three innings in relief, not allowing a run. Chacon struck out six batters, walking just two. Right-hander Will Varmette allowed one run in the ninth inning, but nothing more, closing out the win. Both Chacon and Varmette are riding strong form in the final stretch of the season; Chacon has not allowed a run in his last nine innings with a 14/9 K/BB ratio. Varmette, meanwhile, has pitched to a 2.45 ERA since August 1 with an 18/4 K/BB.

Kerrington Cross had his second four-hit game in a calendar month, finishing 4-for-4 in the win. Cross hit three doubles in the game, driving in two runs for the TinCaps. Cross is hitting .421 in the series with five extra-base hits. Ryan Gerety went 1-for-4 with a single and a walk, scoring a run. Gerety also stole two bases in the game and has posted an OBP of .432 since making his pro debut back on August 27. Robbie Lavey had one of four TinCap doubles in the game. Luke Cantwell reached base twice in the contest, scoring a run. Yoiber Ocopio scored a run as well, and has now made it on base safely in seven of his last eight games.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 8-6 in 10 innings vs Inland Empire) (66-65 on the season)

Joe Tiroly – 1-for-5, Walk-off Two-Run Home Run

Jorge Quintana – 2-for-4, Home Run, Two Runs Scored

Tyler Schmitt – 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 5 K (75 pitches – 42 strikes)

Right-hander Tyler Schmitt pitched three innings of one-run baseball in what could be his final start of the season. The right-hander struck out five batters and was able to pick off one baserunner as well. Schmitt saw seven batters reach base, but timely strikeouts allowed him to hold the 66ers to one run. James Guyette made his first multi-inning outing in relief, allowing three runs (two earned). Four of six outs came via the groundball, with Guyette throwing 20 of 34 pitches for strikes. Tyler Pitzer allowed two runs in 1.1 innings, and Jordan Valenzuela threw 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Left-hander Andrew Wright pitched a scoreless ninth inning and returned to the mound for the tenth. Wright pitched another scoreless frame, and with the Storm winning the game, Wright earned his second pro victory in just his seventh game.

The Storm lineup combined for four extra-base hits and four stolen bases in the contest, also capitalizing on four Inland Empire errors. Chris McHugh hit a double as part of a multi-hit performance. Lake Elsinore scored first, as an RBI groundout by Dawson Willis. Jesmaylin Arias scored a run on a wild pitch for the second run. Qrey Lott scored a run in the third inning, stealing third base and making it to home on a throwing error. Jorge Quintana’s ninth home run of the season tied the game at four in the sixth inning. Quintana had two hits and two stolen bases in the game. After the 66ers took a 6-4 lead, Lott put Lake Elsinore within one run on a groundout. Augie Lopez’s first pro home run tied the game in the ninth inning, a majestic blast to right-center field. Lopez’s home run sent the game into extra innings, where Joe Tiroly would lead off the inning. Tiroly swung at a 1-1 breaking ball from Chris Diaz and sent it deep to left-center field for a walk-off home run. It was Tiroly’s seventh home run of the season, and the Virginia draftee has posted an OPS of 1.072 in his first 19 career games.
