The San Diego Padres minor league affiliates went 1-1 on Thursday.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 3-2 vs. Oklahoma City) (82-62 on the season)

Jay Groome: 8 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K (96 pitches, 59 strikes)

Brandon Dixon: (1-for-3), HR, 2 RBI, R, BB

Matthew Batten: (2-for-3), RBI, R, BB, K

Kyle Martin: (1-for-2), R, BB, K

The Chihuahuas rode eight strong innings from Jay Groome to a win in a tight affair. The victory gave El Paso a two-game lead over the Dodgers in the tight race for the PCL West division. Brandon Dixon blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, helping El Paso into an early lead. Matthew Batten added a pair of hits, including a seventh-inning single, which proved to be the game-winning hit. Each team had just five hits, but Dixon’s two-run home run was crucial, giving the Chihuahuas just enough offense. José Castillo closed the game after Groome’s performance, striking out two Dodgers in a hitless ninth.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 5-2 to Frisco) (Lost TEX Division Series 0-2)

Nolan Watson: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 4 K (58 pitches, 37 strikes)

Yorman Rodriguez: (1-for-4), HR, 2 RBI, R, K

Juan Fernandez: (1-for-4), 2B

Webster Rivas: (2-for-4)

The Missions season ended in disappointing fashion, as Frisco handled Nolan Watson and the San Antonio pitching staff. They scored three times off Watson before adding another off Henry Henry. The Missions’ offense didn’t produce anything until the ninth inning when Yorman Rodriguez’s home run scored the only two runs of the game. San Antonio made a pair of errors, as three of the five Roughriders runs were unearned. Cody Bradford allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings for Frisco, shutting down the Missions lineup. The loss ended San Antonio’s season, sending Frisco on to the next round.
