San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-1 on Thursday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-5 over Las Vegas) (21-21 on the season)
Jackson Wolf– 4.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, BB, 8 K (83 pitches- 59 strikes)
Clay Dungan– (3-for-4) 2 Runs, BB, SB
Luis Campusano– (2-for-5) HR, 3 RBI, Run
Tirso Ornelas- (3-for-5) 3 RBI, 2 Runs
A 96 mph fastball from Reiss Knehr ended the game for the Chihuahuas as Knehr shut the door on an 8-5 win for El Paso. The Chihuahuas scored five runs in the last two innings of the game to earn the come-from-behind win on the road. Jackson Wolf started the game and allowed three earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. The lefty struck out seven in the game and threw 83 pitches. Keven Kopps earned the win as he threw a scoreless inning of relief for El Paso. Reiss Knehr earned his eighth save of the year with a scoreless 9th inning in which he recorded three outs by strikeout.

Luis Campusano continues to own PCL pitching as he homered and drove in three runs in the game. Campusano has a 1.079 OPS on the season. Tirso Ornels went 3-for-5 in the win and drove in three runs himself. The left-handed hitting outfielder is still producing at the Triple-A level and should eventually be recalled by the Padres. Clay Dungan was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Each member of the El Paso lineup recorded a hit except for Yonathan Perlaza, who went 0-for-4.
San Antonio Missions (Lost 9-6 over Midland) (17-19 on the season)
Moises Gomez– (2-for-4) Run, BB
Anthony Villar- (2-for-5) Run, RBI
Cody Roberts– (3-for-5) HR, 3B, Run, 4 RBIs
Jagger Haynes- 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 7 K (91 pitches- 55 strikes)
The Missions got out to an early lead, but Jagger Haynes seemed to run out of gas late in his start on Thursday. The lefty went 5.2 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) while striking out seven batters. Haynes flashes some great ability but has yet to put it all together. His ERA stands at 4.50 this season. Haynes was not charged with the loss in the game. That honor goes to Jake Higginbotham. The right-handed pitcher gave up two earned runs without recording an out. Manuel Castro was also touched up as he gave up two runs in one inning of work.
Offensively, the Missions were led by catcher Cody Roberts, who homered, tripled, and drove in four runs for San Antonio. The journeyman backstop is 28 and was signed in February to strengthen the area for San Diego in the minor leagues. Moises Gomez continues to swing a positive bat as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .267 with an .810 OPS for the Missions in 2025. The Missions struck out 10 times in the game. Marcos Castanon was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the game.
Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 8-7 over Western Michigan) (20-16 on the season)
Rosman Verdugo-(3-for-3) 2 HR, 2B, 4 Runs, 3 RBI, BB
Brandon Butterworth– (2-for-4) 2B, 2 Runs
Braedon Karpathios– (1-for-3) HR, 3 RBI, 2 Runs, BB
Harry Gustin– 3.1 IP, 3 H, BB, 5 K (57 pitches- 38 strikes)
Down five runs, the Fort Wayne TinCaps rallied for a 8-7 win at home against Western Michigan. Jose Luis Reyes started the game and was torched for seven earned runs in three innings pitched. Harry Gustin relieved him and was excellent. The southpaw struck out five in three scoreless innings. Gustin has a nice arm with a power FB that reaches 95-96 mph. Reliever Garrett Hawkins closed the game by getting the last four outs of the contest. Hawkins throws over the top with a fastball that reached 96 mph. He threw well on the night for the TinCaps.

Rosman Verdugo led the team with the bat as the young infielder slugged two homers and doubled in the win. He owns an .862 OPS so far this season, and the power is coming as the blasts were his seventh and eighth of the year. Brandon Butterworth had a hustle double that ignites the Fort Wayne offense. He went 2-for-4 in the game and caught the last out of the game, a pop-up to him at second base. Braedon Karpathios homered and drove in three runs for Fort Wayne.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 1-0 over Fresno) (16-20 on the season)
Kleiber Olmedo– 4 IP, 2 H, BB, 6 K (45 pitches- 27 strikes)
Kavares Tears– (1-for-3) BB
Kaden Hollow– (2-for-4) RBI
Adam Conrad– 3 IP, 2 H, BB (45 pitches- 27 strikes)
A pitcher’s duel broke out in Lake Elsinore as the Storm won a 1-0 game over the Fresno Grizzlies. Kleiber Olmedo started the game and went four innings, allowing two hits and walking a batter while striking out six men. The right-handed pitcher is a 20-year-old and has a big arm. If the Padres can harness his stuff, he has the upside of a major leaguer. Relieving Olmedo and earning the win was 22-year-old Adam Conrad, who went three scoreless innings. Vicarte Domingo was impressive as the right-handed pitcher earned the save by striking out five of the six men he faced. He now has 32 strikeouts in 19 innings of work.

The Storm scored their only run on a Kaden Hollow single in the first inning. Cobb Hightower scored on the hit after he earned a walk to lead off the game. Hightower is off to a slow start in the California League, but there are high hopes for the infielder. Hollow recorded two hits in the win, hitting .297 with a .782 OPS on the year. Kavares Tears was 1-for-3 with a walk, and Zach Evans went 1-for-4. The Storm struck out five times in the game. Lamar King Jr. went 0-f0r-4 with two strikeouts in the loss and is battling through a cold spell.
ACL Padres (Won 5-3 over ACL Guardians) (2-7 on the season)
Matt Waldron– 1.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 3 K
Yimy Tovar-(2-for-4) 2B, Run, RBI
Victor Figueroa– (2-for-3) HR, 3B, 2 Runs, 3 RBI, BB
Yoiber Ocopio– (2-for-4) RBI
Matt Waldron returned to action in the desert as the knuckleballer went 1.2 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out three batters. The Padres will build his pitch count slowly, and there is a chance Waldron will debut with the Padres in the next few weeks. In the game, the ACL team ran wild over the Guardians team, stealing eight bases in the game. Kale Fountain went 0-for-4 in the game, but stole four bases for the Padres. Kai Roberts was 1-for-3 in the game and stole three bases for the Padres. Dariel Polanco earned the win by throwing 2.1 innings and allowing one earned run.

Victor Figueroa needs to be promoted. The power-hitting first baseman went 2-for-3 with a homer and a triple on Thursday. The left-handed hitter owns a 1.874 OPS in 33 at-bats for the ACL Padres team. Yimy Tovar was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Yoiber Ocopio was also 2-for-4 in the game. Jesmaylin Arias was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the game.
