Padres Down on the Farm: May 14 (Lake Elsinore, El Paso, Amarillo win big in offensive explosions)
El Paso hitters swatted three home runs while Amarillo got hits from every player but one.
The Minor League affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 3-1 today.
Here is a quick recap of what happened.
El Paso Chihuahuas won 7-2 (27-12 on the season)
El Paso just keeps on hitting. This time, the Chihuahuas scored five runs in the final two innings to break a tie and take the win. Their starter, Jerry Keel, allowed both runs to score in the six innings he pitched while striking out six and walking three. The El Paso bullpen handled the rest as Robert Stock, Luis Perdomo, and Carlos Torres pitched three scoreless innings of relief to hold off the River Cats. Michael Cantu broke the tie in the eighth inning with a solo shot and Boog Powell increased the lead with a two-run home run. With the game now at 5-2, Cantu extended the lead to 7-2 with his second home run, this time of the two-run variant.
Many El Paso have enjoyed high batting averages, including Luis Urias who, after a 1-for-4 game, got his batting average to a sterling .350, while Powell sits at .372 so far this season.
Michael Cantu: 2-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 Runs Scored, K

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 9-4 (15-21 on the season)
The Sod Poodles offense sprung to life today as they collected 12 hits and nine runs in a scoring bonanza that saw every position player except Owen Miller get an RBI. The Poodles scored fast and in bunches, collecting eight runs in between the third and fifth innings. Brad Zunica swatted a solo home run while Ivan Castillo continued to swing a hot bat with a 2-for-4 day, including an RBI double in the fourth inning. The Soddie capped off the scoring spree in the fifth inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Hudson Potts and Taylor Kohlwey while Kyle Overstreet slapped an RBI single.
Kyle Lloyd pitched five innings of one-run ball while striking out six batters in the game. The RockHounds rallied against Travis Rake for five hits and two runs, but two straight groundball outs got him out of the inning.

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 9-3 (18-21 on the season)
Much like their higher counterparts, the Storm rode big inning en route to a big offensive victory.
Lake Elsinore scored four runs in the first inning, starting with a wild pitch to score the first run of the game. Eguy Rosario and Olivier Basabe both collected run-scoring hits in the inning. A balk allowed Luis Campusano to score in the second inning, but the real breakthrough came in the third inning. Robbie Podorsky kicked off the rally with an RBI triple and scored on Jeisson Rosario‘s RBI single. Finishing off the rally was Luis Campusano, whose third home run made the game 9-2. He is hitting .321 on the season at Lake Elsinore in 31 games, so a promotion to Amarillo could be in the works. While Ronald Bolanos allowed four runs in 4.1 innings, his offense had his back and kept him in front all game long.

Eguy Rosario: 2-3, 2 RBI, Run Scored, 2 BB, 2 SB

Ronald Bolanos: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 earned), 4 BB, 4 K (42 pitches) No Decision
Hansel Rodriguez: 1.2 IP, 4 K (14 pitches) Win
Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 5-4 (15-21 on the season)
While the TinCaps were tied up with the Captains, an eighth-inning run allowed by Jose Quezada put the Captains ahead for good.
Xavier Edwards was a key cog in the TinCaps lineup, going 3-for-5 with two RBI to raise his batting average to .368 from the leadoff spot. Tucupita Marcano drove in the other two runs with a two-run single following Edwards’ run-scoring single. While Marcano’s hit gave the TinCaps the lead, it was taken back from them when Mitch Reeves got an RBI single in the sixth, while Quezada’s wild pitch in the eighth allowed the go-ahead run to cross the plate. Efrain Contreras got a no-decision after pitching four innings and allowing four runs to score. He also struck out four batters.
