Padres affiliates played a full slate of games, going 4-3 on Tuesday.

Here is a recap of the games played, along with the week’s opening roster roundup.

Roster Roundup

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 4-3 vs Reno) (37-33 on the season)

Rodolfo Duran – 1-for-3, Walk-off Home Run

Forrest Wall – 2-for-4, Run Scored

Kyle Hart – 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K (79 pitches – 43 strikes)

El Paso won their series opener against Reno on Tuesday behind a strong start from Kyle Hart and some late-game heroics. Hart lasted five innings, allowing one run on five hits. Hart struck out a season-high six batters, with the lone run scored against him coming on a home run by Jordan Lawlar. Raul Brito allowed a home run in the sixth inning, and Jose Espada allowed one in the ninth inning, but the team was able to successfully limit the Reno offense’s ability to score. Eduarniel Nunez tossed another scoreless inning, striking out two batters.

Tim Locastro got the Chihuahuas on the board in the fourth with an RBI single to score Nate Mondou. Forrest Wall finished the game 2-for-4 with two singles. Clay Dungan and Mason McCoy both finished with a base hit each, while rehabbing outfielder Jason Heyward was 0-for-3 with a walk. Rodolfo Duran had the final word, launching a three-run home run against left-hander Andrew Saalfrank to win the game for El Paso.

San Antonio Missions (Won 4-2 vs Frisco) (36-28 on the season)

Romeo Sanabria – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Nerwilian Cedeno – 1-for-3, RBI Double

Luis Patino – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K (63 pitches – 40 strikes)

San Antonio used a furious four-run rally in the sixth inning to win in a close game against Frisco. Luis Patino made the start for the Missions, and the right-hander tossed four innings of work, striking out six batters. Patino allowed only one hit and two walks, and only twice had to pitch with a runner in scoring position. Enmanuel Pinales allowed two runs in two innings of relief. Pinales labored through the fifth inning, allowing two singles and a walk before a base hit from Sebastian Walcott scored two runs. Still, Pinales was able to earn the win. Jake Higginbotham tossed two scoreless frames before Ethan Routzahn closed out the win with a scoreless ninth.

The sixth inning saw the Missions strike for four runs. Moises Gomez hit a leadoff double before Kai Murphy was plunked. Nerwilian Cedeno drove in Gomez on an RBI double before Francisco Acuna walked. Devin Ortiz and Brandon Valenzuela hit into back-to-back forceouts, but each allowed a run to score. Romeo Sanabria capped off the scoring for the inning with a two-out RBI single. It was a perfect scenario for Sanabria, who has a .347/.406 /.495 slash line against relievers this season and has a 1.115 OPS in late-game close situations this season.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 6-4 vs Dayton) (30-34 on the season)

Ethan Long – 2-for-4, Home Run

Brandon Butterworth – 1-for-5, Home Run

Ian Koenig – 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 0 K (85 pitches – 56 strikes)

The TinCaps’ series opener saw five home runs hit in the game. Unfortunately, only two came from the TinCaps, as the Dayton offense tagged starter Ian Koenig for three homers and six earned runs. Koenig did not strike out a batter despite a strong ball-strike ratio, as his breaking pitches were leaking over the heart of the plate. Fernando Sanchez tossed 3.1 innings of relief on 42 pitches, striking out two and allowing no runs.

The TinCaps’ lineup put up a fight against the Dayton staff, logging seven hits and four runs. Brandon Butterworth and Ethan Long each clubbed solo homers, with Butterworth’s being of the leadoff variety. Jack Costello had an RBI double in the late rally, scoring Rosman Verdugo. Costello came around to score on an RBI single from Brendan Durfee. Braedon Karpathios singled once in five at-bats, also recording an outfield assist from right. Despite Ethan Long’s solo homer in the ninth, the team would be unable to complete the comeback, falling 6-4.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 9-1 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (29-35 on the season)

Cobb Hightower – 1-for-3, RBI Single

Ryan Wilson – 2-for-2, Two Doubles, Run Scored

Kannon Kemp – 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K (75 pitches – 48 strikes)

Kannon Kemp’s first Storm start came against the California League-leading Quakes, and Kemp performed admirably. The right-hander tossed five innings of three-run baseball, striking out four batters. All the damage against Kemp came in the third inning, with an RBI double and two-run homer accounting for the runs he allowed. Nonetheless, it was an encouraging sign for Kemp to pitch into the fifth inning, and he has thrown five frames in back-to-back outings.

The offense was held in check by Quakes’ pitching, as the team was only able to score one run. Cobb Hightower was 1-for-3 out of the leadoff spot, driving in the team’s lone run with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Ryan Wilson had a strong day, finishing 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks. Yimy Tovar had a single in his Storm debut and stole a base as well. The team drew seven walks and stole four bases, but went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

ACL Padres (Lost 8-0 vs ACL Dodgers) (9-25 on the season)

Kale Fountain – 2-for-4, Two Singles

Donte Grant – 2-for-4, Double

Humberto Cruz – 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Right-hander Humberto Cruz took the ball for the ACL Padres and allowed three runs in 3.2 innings of work. Cruz mostly kept the ball on the ground, getting five ground ball outs and a double play. The damage against Cruz came in the first inning, for the most part, and one run scored in the fourth. Logan Gillaspie made a rehab appearance with the ACL squad, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. J.B. Wendelken also made a rehab appearance, though he was torched for four runs in 1.1 frames. In the lineup, it was really the Fountain and Grant show. Kale Fountain had a multi-hit game, with two singles in four ABs. Donte Grant, hitting behind Fountain, had two hits as well, including a double. Fountain had a stolen base as well, but the team as a whole went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight.

I'd like this amount to

DSL Padres Gold (Won 11-9 vs DSL Tampa Bay) (7-4 on the season)

Fabian Alcantara – 2-for-2, Home Run, Three RBI

Jhoan De La Cruz – 2-for-3, Double, RBI, Two Runs

Carlos Alvarez – 1.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 1 K

The Padres Gold rattled off an unfathomable comeback win over the DSL Tampa Bay Rays. Carlos Alvarez toed the rubber and tossed 1.2 innings of three-run baseball. The issue for Alvarez was again the walks, as the left-hander walked three in his outing. Johan Minaya allowed five runs in 0.1 innings, and Rordy Mejia got the team through further, allowing one run in 2.2 innings. Four relievers tossed the final 4.1 innings without allowing a run; Florangel Vasquez got the win, and Jose Ortega earned the save.

The offense pulled off a Herculean effort to win in regulation. Jhojan Downer had three hits and scored a run. Jhoan De La Cruz had a multi-hit game and singled in a run, while also scoring twice. Deivid Coronil reached base three times and scored three runs in the game. Fabian Alcantara had a strong outing as the no.9 hitter, driving in three runs, including the game winner on a two-run homer in the seventh.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 9-0 vs DSL Orioles Black) (5-5 on the season)

Sebastian Pena – 1-for-3, Triple, Three RBI

Jose Bericoto – 1-for-3, Single, Two Runs

Marco Eluscat – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Marco Eluscat tossed a gem for the Padres Brown, as the left-hander struck out four in five scoreless innings. Eluscat kept the ball on the ground and allowed only one hit in a dominant effort. While one run of support would have been enough for a win, the Padres’ Brown pushed across nine. Sebastian Pena had the big hit of the game with a three-run triple, and the rest of the lineup was no slouch either. Abraham Bastidas and Yonaiker Hernandez each had an RBI single. The team drew seven walks and went 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position in the win.
