San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-2 on Saturday.

The Verdugo’s went wild as three different players with the last name Verdugo made our nightly spotlight.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 9-5 over Reno) (46-66 on the season)

Dustin Harris– (2-for-4) 2B, Run, RBI, BB, SB

Nick Pratto– (2-for-4) Run, K

Bryce Johnson– (3-for-5) 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, SB

Daison Acosta– 1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, (22 pitches, 12 strikes)

El Paso scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning as Bryce Johnson doubled in a pair to extend the lead. Johnson went 2-for-4 in the game with a stolen base. The outfielder is hitting .271 with a .745 OPS in the PCL after clearing waivers and being placed in the minors by the Padres. Nick Pratto went 2-for-4 in the win, and Dustin Harris doubled, stole a base, scored a run, and drove one in for El Paso. Harris is enjoying a productive season, putting up a .968 OPS for the Chihuahuas.

It was a bullpen game for El Paso as seven pitchers toed the rubber for the Chihuahuas. Daison Acosta started the game and allowed one run on three hits. Miguel Cienfuegos allowed four earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. It looked bad for El Paso at this point as the first two pitchers were lit up. The bullpen responded with 5.1 innings of scoreless ball, securing the win for El Paso. David Morgan and Logan Gillaspie each pitched a scoreless frame for the Chihuahuas.

San Antonio Missions (Won 3-2 over West Michigan) (48-59 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios- (2-for-3) HR, 3 RBI, Run, K

Ryan Jackson– (2-for-3) Run, BB

Luis Verdugo– (1-for-3) 2B

Jamie Hitt– 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 7 K (87 pitches- 62 strikes)

The Missions scored three runs in the first and made it last, holding on to a 3-2 win. The team recorded only five hits in the game, but the pitching staff was on point for the Missions. Jamie Hitt started the game and went six innings, allowing one earned run while striking out seven men. Jose Leclerc relieved him and allowed one run in two innings of work. Garrett Hawkins came on for his second save of the season in a shaky 9th inning. Hawkins walked two batters and allowed a hit before recording the final out of the contest in a wild ninth inning. Wyatt Hofmman made a nice play in the 9th for the Mission,s saving the game as he snagged a ground ball with the bases loaded and nobody out, forcing a runner out at home.

Bradeon Karpathios led the way with the bat with a three-run homer in the first inning. The opposite field blast is Karpathios’ 12th of the season. The outfielder is showing increased pop to go with an excellent eye at the plate. Ryan Jackson also gets on base, and he did just that in the game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Luis Verdugo doubled in the win for the Missions.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 14-6 to West Michigan) (46-59 on the season)

Rosman Verdugo– (2-for-5) RBI, K

Bradley Frye– (2-for-5) HR, Run, 2 RBI, 3 K

Yoiber Ocopio– (2-for-4) Run

Sean Barnett– 2 IP, 2 H, 5 K (36 pitches- 20 strikes)

The TinCaps’ pitching staff coughed up 10 runs in the top of the third inning, and that was the ball game for Fort Wayne. Bryan Balzer was lit up for six earned runs on four walks and four hits in two innings of work. Javier Chacon relieved Balzer and poured fuel on the fire, allowing six more runs while only getting two outs. A fielding error by Kasen Wells allowed West Michigan to score three unearned runs off Chacon. Sean Barnett was the lone bright spot in the game for the pitching staff as he struck out five in two innings of scoreless ball.

Offensively, Bradley Frye homered for the first time and drove in a pair of runs. Fort Wayne tried to come back, but the 10 runs in the third were too much. Rosman Verdugo went 2-for-5 in the loss and owns a .722 OPS this season. Yoiber Ocopio recorded two hits in the loss and scored a run.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 5-1 over Ontario) (57-50 on the season)

Jose Verdugo– (2-for-4) 2B, Run

Jesmaylin Arias– (1-for-4) 3B, 2 RBI

Alex Conover– (1-for-4) 2b, 2 RBI, SB

Tyler Schmitt– 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 6 K (90 pitches- 50 strikes)

Lak Elsinore scored in the middle innings, and the pitching staff held Ontario to five hits in the game. Tyler Schmitt was on his game as the 21-year-old right-hander allowed only three hits in over five innings of work. He struck out six in the game and is holding a 5.05 ERA in the Cal League. Rordy Mejia finished the game off by retiring the last 11 hitters on 48 pitches. Mejia surrendered two hits and two walks but failed to allow a run to score. He earned his second save of the season.

The Storm gathered a lead in a nice game from Jose Verdugo. The infielder went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Verdugo is hitting .265 on the season with a .683 OPS on the season. Jesmaylin Arias and Alex Conover both went 1-for-4 in the win. Truitt Madonna walked three times and stole his 15th base of the year.

ACL Padres

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 6-5 to DSL Royals Fortuna) (9-38 on the season)

The DSL Padres Brown team lost in extras, as the DSL Royals Fortuna team walked it off in the bottom of the 8th inning. Robinson Chacon singled on a fly ball to right fielder Berma Moreno. Anderson Garcia scored the game-winning run for the Royals. Aneury Sosa was charged with the loss as the 19-year-old righty surrendered a run in a little over one inning pitched for the Padres. Rickelby Ramos started the game and coughed up three runs in four innings pitched. His ERA is up to 10.04 on the season.

This DSL club lacks hitting, and again on Saturday, they suffered. The team collected three hits in the game, and although they walked six times in the game, they struck out 10 times as a team. Gabriel Teran is the lone hitting star, with a .330 average on the season and an OPS of 1.015. Teran went 1-for-3 in the game and walked once. Jhostin Fuentes stole two bags in the contest and owns five on the season.

DSL Padres Gold (Won 5-4 over DSL Astros Blue) (35-14 on the season)

Sebastian Nadales– (1-for-1) RBI, 2 BB

Albieris Polanco– 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, BB, K, (WIN)

The DSL Padres Gold team blew a one-run lead in the top of the seventh but walked it off in the bottom of the inning. Endy Rios doubled on a fly ball over centerfielder Yensi De La Cruz. Darian Castillo scored the game-winner for the DSL Padres Gold team. Rios went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk. Sebastian Nadales went 1-for-1 in the game with two walks. Cristian Benavides scored a run and went 1-for-3 in the game.

Albieris Polanco blew the save in the top of the seventh but earned the win and is now 8-0 on the season in the DSL. Polanco is a 20-year-old right-handed pitcher out of the Dominican Republic who owns a 3.10 ERA so far this season. Joseph Uteza continues to impress as the 18-year-old righty went 2.2 innings without allowing a run. His ERA is 2.82 on the season for the DSL Padres team.
