Padres affiliates went 3-3 on Friday.

Here is our daily recap of games played. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-6 vs Reno) (45-66 on the season)

Ethan Salas – 2-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-5, Home Run, Two RBI

Sean Boyle – 4.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 3 K (89 pitches – 56 strikes)

The El Paso lineup delivered three home runs en route to an 8-6. Ethan Salas took the spotlight on Friday, as the Padres’ No. 1 prospect hit his first career homer at the Triple-A level. Salas’ three-run home run against right-hander Ashton Izzi extended the El Paso lead in the fourth inning. Marcos Castanon hit a two-run home run in the second inning, scoring himself and Salas. Castanon now has 14 home runs in 84 games this season, and has a chance to surpass his career-high mark of 23 (in Single-A) with a strong end to the season. Clay Dungan hit a solo home run in the second inning, and Rodolfo Duran chipped in with an RBI single to score the freshly re-signed Dustin Harris. 

Sean Boyle threw 4.2 innings of three-run baseball for El Paso. The right-hander struck out three batters, recording eight outs on ground balls. JP France made his Padres organization debut in the fifth inning, needing all of three pitches to strand two inherited runners. JP Sears allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning in relief. Ty Adcock earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Hans Crouse pitched a scoreless eighth, and Alek Jacob earned the save with a scoreless ninth. 

San Antonio Missions (Won 6-2 vs Springfield) (47-59 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-3, Two Doubles, Two RBI

Albert Fabian – 2-for-4, Two Singles, RBI

Eric Yost – 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 6 K (91 pitches – 56 strikes)

A quality start from Eric Yost and a barrage of Missions doubles led San Antonio to their second win of the series. Starting with the starter, Yost fired six innings of two-run baseball. The right-hander generated nine swings and misses and was even able to successfully pick off two baserunners.  Yost pitched into the seventh inning, but was unable to record an out in the seventh. Tucker Musgrove came on in the seventh inning, allowing one inherited runner to score. The hard-throwing right-hander struck out two batters in the seventh as well, and has now struck out 25 of 57 batters faced at Double-A (43.9%). Josh Mallitz earned the win with two scoreless innings, striking out two. 

Braedon Karpathios continued his torrid start to August, as the Missions’ right fielder went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Karpathios drove in two runs in the contest, reaching base three times. The Pennsylvania native has 11 hits in his first 23 at-bats of the month (.478/.556/.826). Jack Costello drove in his first run as a Mission, hitting an RBI single in the first inning. A four-run Missions eighth inning gave them command of the game. Braedon Karpathios’ second RBI double of the game gave the Missions a 3-2 lead. Albert Fabian then singled up the middle to score Karpathios. With pinch-runner Kai Roberts on first, Luis Verdugo’s ninth double of the season brought in a fifth run. Wyatt Hoffman then pulled a double to left field, scoring Verdugo and putting the Missions up by four. San Antonio went 4-for-13 with runners in scoring position to earn the victory. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 14-4 vs West Michigan) (46-58 on the season)

Ryan Wideman – 2-for-4, Double, RBI

Bradley Frye – 2-for-4, Double, Run Scored

Maikel Miralles – 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 2 K (79 pitches – 51 strikes)

Right-hander Maikel Miralles threw 51 of 79 pitches for strikes, but allowed five runs on seven hits against the Whitecaps. Miralles only struck out two batters, walking two. The right-hander was charged with six singles and one double given up, but battled through persistent base traffic. Braian Salazar threw a scoreless fifth inning, striking out two. Will Koger did not record an out in the sixth and was charged with four earned runs. Nick Falter was also charged with four runs of his own in an inning-plus of work. Will Varmette threw the final two innings, allowing one run and striking out two. 

The TinCaps’ lineup was productive, but not able to erase the deep deficit. Ryan Wideman hit his third double since joining the TinCaps in the contest, driving in a run. Wideman’s double put the TinCaps on the board with their first run of the game. One night after cracking the SportsCenter top 10, Bradley Frye went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Frye scored on a run-scoring error on a ball off the bat of Kasen Wells. Luke Cantwell drove in two runs for the TinCaps on a single, and he is now hitting .281 across his first 64 at-bats in High-A. Justin DeCriscio had two singles in the game, scoring two runs. 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 10-8 vs Ontario) (56-50 on the season)

Ty Harvey– 2-for-4, Double, Single, Five RBI

Yimy Tovar – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Two Runs Scored

Adler Cecil – 2.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R (5 ER), 4 BB, 6 K (69 pitches – 37 strikes)

Lake Elsinore played another back-and-forth affair, pulling ahead in the eighth inning on Murder Mystery Night at The Diamond. This whodunnit came down to the end, and on the Storm’s side, Ty Harvey was responsible for five of the team’s ten runs. Harvey doubled, singled, and hit a sacrifice fly. Harvey hit a two-run single early in the game before driving a two-run double into the heart of the Ad Monster in the seventh inning. Nu’u Contrades scored two runs, and Alex Conover went 1-for-2 with a single. Conover scored three runs, partly because he took somewhat of a beating at the plate (three hit-by-pitches). Yimy Tovar reached base three times, scoring two runs. Jose Verdugo drove in two runs, and Truitt Madonna went 1-for-2 with a single, two walks, and a pair of runs. Dawson Willis made his return known to all, launching a solo home run in the sixth inning. 

On the mound, Adler Cecil carved up the Tower Buzzers’ offense (11 whiffs), but allowed five earned runs. Cecil walked four batters in the game, allowing three hits. Cecil did allow a three-run home run in the third inning, which tarnished the look of his outing on the stat sheet. The left-hander struck out six batters and now has 81 strikeouts in 48.1 innings this season. Florangel Vasquez made his Storm debut with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Vasquez was a big reason why the Storm were able to mount a comeback. Ryan Reed made his season debut as a member of the Storm with two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one. Brandon Langley allowed two runs in the eighth, but wound up earning the win when the Storm rallied. Langley, the 6-foot-6 right-hander, recorded the final three outs of the game as well, wrapping up the Storm win. 

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 5-3 vs DSL Athletics) (34-14 on the season)

Endy Rios – 1-for-5, Double

Yorvin Morla – 1-for-2, Single, Three Walks, Run Scored

Josias Figuereo – 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K 

Despite a strong start from Josias Figuereo, the Padres Gold’s bullpen allowed four runs in three innings to take the loss. Figuereo allowed one hit and one walk in five innings. The right-hander struck out two batters in his five frames of one-run baseball. Raudi Perez allowed two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss. Jose Perez threw 1.1 scoreless innings, and Valentin Perez allowed two runs in one inning. Yorvin Morla reached base four times in the contest, but it was not enough. Dayquer Alfonzo was responsible for a run scoring, as an error on one of his batted balls allowed the Padres Gold to score a run. Endy Rios hit a double in the game. Sebastian Nadales and Eliander Primera each made it on base via one single and one walk, with Primera scoring a run. 

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 12-3 vs DSL Royals Ventura) (9-37 on the season)

Gabriel Teran – 2-for-4, Home Run, RBI, Two Runs Scored

Dawry Guerrero – 1-for-2, Single, Two Walks

Randy Soto – 3 IP. 5 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 0 K 

The Padres Brown were blown out 12-3 as their rough season continued. Starter Randy Soto lasted all of three innings, allowing five earned runs. Soto walked four and did not record a strikeout. Dioscaride Sarit threw a scoreless inning despite walking two, and Jeferson Ogando allowed two runs in one-third of an inning. Nathanael Jacinto allowed five runs in 2.2 innings. Gabriel Teran hit his third home run of the season in the seventh to account for one of three Padres Brown runs. Teran scored two of the team’s three runs, while Rafael Moran scored the lone remaining run. Dawry Guerrero went 1-for-2 with two walks and a single, as well as the team’s only successful stolen base.
