Padres Down on the Farm: August 23 (Hinojosa 3 hits and Campusano HR in EP/Ruiz homers for FW)

All four minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were back in action on Tuesday.

Triple-A and Double-A both won, while High-A and Low-A both lost.

 

El Paso Chihuahuas (AAA) Won 7-3 in 10 innings (65-52)

C.J. Hinojosa: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B

Luis Liberato: 3-for-4, 3 R, 2 2B

Luis Campusano: 1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI

Ryan Weathers: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 7 K, 2 BB

Reiss Knehr: W (4-0), 2 IP, 2 K, 1 K

El Paso won another exciting extra-inning game on Tuesday. After five innings of three-run ball from Ryan Weathers, the Chihuahuas were able to come back and win, scoring two runs in the eighth and four in the 10th. C.J. Hinojosa tied the game at one in the fourth with a ground-rule double, and drove in another run on a single in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2. El Paso tied the game 3-3 on a balk in the eighth. In the top of the 10th, Luis Campusano hit a two-run home run, his 13th of the year, to give the Chihuahuas a 5-3 lead, and Kyle Martin also hit a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-3. Reiss Knehr pitched the ninth and 10th innings, allowing zero runs to give El Paso their 65th win of the season.

 

San Antonio Missions (AA) Won 7-3 (60-53)

Domingo Leyba: 2-for-4, RBI, R,

Webster Rivas: 2-for-4

Brandon Komar: W (3-3), 5 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 7 K, 3 BB

Moises Lugo: S (2), 3 IP, 4 K, 0 R

San Antonio allowed three runs in the first inning, but threw eight innings shutout the rest of the way. Juan Fernandez singled in the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. Connor Kaiser doubled in the fourth to tie the game 3-3, and a Domingo Leyba sacrifice fly in the fourth gave the Missions a 4-3 lead. San Antonio scored three more runs in the seventh, one on a bases-loaded walk, and two more on an error to go up 7-3. Moises Lugo pitched the last three innings shutout for the save.

 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (High-A) Lost 13-2 (45-69)

Agustin Ruiz: 1-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, R

Justin Farmer: 2-for-4

Bodi Rascon: L (0-2), 2.2 IP, 7 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 4 BB

Fort Wayne struggled both at the plate and on the mound. Bodi Rascon got hit hard, not lasting past the third inning. The TinCaps only got five hits, and the only two runs were on an Agustin Ruiz home run in the second.

 

Lake Elsinore Storm (Low-A) Lost 8-7 (66-49)

Juan Zabala: 2-for-3, 2 R

Nathan Martorella: 2-for-3, 2 H, 2 R

Marcos Castanon: 1-for-5, HR (20)

Graham Pauley: 1-for-3, 4 RBI, R

Duncan Snider: L (5-1), 3.2 IP, 8 ER, 9 H, 3 K, 4 BB

Lake Elsinore was down early in Tuesday’s game, going down 8-0 after the fourth inning and not scoring until the sixth. Duncan Snider could not make it past the third inning, with all eight runs credited towards him. The bullpen threw 4.1 shutout innings. Marcos Castanon homered in the sixth to break the shutout. Jakob Marsee singled in the eighth to make it 8-3, and Graham Pauley has a three-run double to make it 8-6. A wild pitch scored Pauley to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Storm fell by short by just one.
