Padres affiliates went 1-1 on Monday.

Let’s dive right into the games played and preview the upcoming week’s slate of games. 

El Paso Chihuahuas – Off Day

The Chihuahuas are back home in El Paso for the week, opening up a six-game homestand against the visiting Salt Lake Bees (Angels Triple-A). El Paso is 2-4 against the Bees this season. Jagger Haynes is likely to start the opener. 

San Antonio Missions – Off Day

The Missions are back on the road this week, traveling to take on Frisco (Rangers Double-A) in a six-game set. The Missions are 8-10 against Frisco this season. Ian Koenig is likely to take the baseball in the series opener. Koenig has made three starts against the RoughRiders this season, pitching to a 2.64 ERA in 17 innings. Two of his three starts have been scoreless, including a seven-inning gem on the opponent’s turf. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps – Off Day

The TinCaps make their lone trip to Davenport, Iowa for a six-game set against the Quad Cities River Bandits (Royals High-A). Luis Gutierrez takes the ball for the TinCaps in what will likely be his penultimate rehab start. Gutierrez threw 51 pitches in his previous start, so watch for him to be in the ballpark of 65-70 pitches against the River Bandits. Right-hander Tanner Jones starts for the River Bandits. 

Lake Elsinore Storm – Off Day

The Storm make their penultimate road trip of the season this week, taking on the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels Single-A). The Storm are 7-5 against Inland Empire this season. Jesus A. Castro is likely to start the opener; Castro has a 4.65 ERA in two starts against the 66ers this season despite a 12:0 K:BB ratio in those games. 

ACL Padres – No Game

DSL Padres Gold (Won 13-4 vs DSL Red Sox Blue) (36-14 on the season)

Johanneiker Leon – 3-for-4, Double, Two RBI

Cristian Benavides – 1-for-4, Double, Two RBI

Yoandres Valdiviezo – 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K 

Left-hander Yoandres Valdiviezo allowed just one hit and one run in his start on Tuesday. The southpaw struck out three batters while also walking three. Valdiviezo bounced back from a rough start last week (1.2 IP, 7 ER). Edwyn Hernandez earned his first win of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Yoel Duarte made his third appearance of the season, allowing a three-run home run in two innings of relief. Johanneiker Leon had his first three-hit game of the season, driving in two of the team’s 13 runs. Cristian Benavides also drove in two runs, crossing home plate twice in the win. Angel Mejia had two singles and two RBI as well, while Timothy Mogen scored two runs in the win. Every member of the Padres Gold’s starting lineup reached base at least once in a complete team effort. 

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 13-3 vs DSL Reds) (9-39 on the season)

Yonnaiker Hernandez – 1-for-3, Double, RBI

Jhostin Fuentes – 1-for-3, Double, Run Scored

Jhoiner Mayora – 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 7 K

Jhoiner Mayora made his first career start, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing four runs. His outing could have been four scoreless innings, but with two runners on and two out in the fourth, a missed catch error on a fielder’s choice opened the floodgates. The Reds scored four against Mayora and reliever Heiver Hernandez. Mayora still fanned seven batters while walking none, which was a promising sign for the 16-year old left-hander. Hernandez later allowed one run of his own, going on to pitch 2.1 innings. Jeferson Ogando failed to record an out in the seventh, walking all four men he faced. Luis Morales walked three in one-third of an inning, allowing all three inherited runners to score plus four runs of his own. Gensy Aquino allowed no runs in two-thirds of an inning. The offense was led by a pair of doubles from Yonnaiker Hernandez and Jhostin Fuentes. Hernandez drove in one of three Padres Brown runs with his double in the fourth inning. The Padres Brown capitalized on extra outs in the third, as a fielding error with the bases loaded scored Luis Rodriguez. Dawry Guerrero then hit a sac fly to score the team’s second run. The Padres Brown went 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position, and the seventh-inning meltdown took away any chances at a comeback win.
