Padres Down on the Farm: April 7 (El Paso wins third straight to open season)
The San Diego Padres affiliates went 1-0 on Thursday as the El Paso Chihuahuas were the only team in play.
The other three teams will begin play on Friday.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-7) (3-0 on season)Â
Ryan Weathers– 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, K (35 pitches- 18 strikes)
Trayce Thompson– (3-for-5) 2 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, K
Webster Rivas– (1-for-2) 3 BB, Run, RBI
Taylor Kohlwey– (1-for-3) 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
Ryan Weathers was pounded in his 2022 MiLB debut as the lefty gave up five earned runs and only managed to get one batter out in the first inning of the game on Thursday against Round Rock. His ERA of 135.00 will certainly come down in his next series of starts. Weathers’ outing was slightly discouraging, but his poor start may be a product of the left-hander trying to do too much on the mound in a quest to return to Petco Park. Thankfully for Weathers, the Chihuahuas brought their bats as they came back with three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good. Trayce Thompson was the offensive hero as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored. Travis Bergan earned the win by pitching 1.1 scoreless innings. Grant Gavin picked up the save for El Paso. The Chihuahuas are off to a 3-0 start to the 2022 season. MacKenzie Gore is set to toe the rubber on Saturday for El Paso.
