El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 5-3 vs Sugar Land) (81-67 on the season)

El Paso’s pitching staff dominated on Saturday, as Jackson Wolf’s five strong innings helped to pave the way for a Chihuahuas win. The El Paso left-hander induced plenty of soft contact despite only six whiffs, as 13 of 17 balls in play were not hard-hit balls. Wolf generated a staggering five pop-ups, which showed he clearly disrupted batters’ timing. Wes Benjamin threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief, picking up one strikeout. Misael Tamarez pitched two innings of one-run baseball in relief of Benjamin, recording two strikeouts along the way. Alek Jacob pitched a no-nonsense ninth inning with a strikeout to seal the Chihuahuas’ 81st win of the season.

At the dish, El Paso played an opportunistic game, making the most of their walks and base hits. Tim Locastro wreaked havoc on the bases, as the Chihuahuas’ first baseman reached base twice, stealing two bases and scoring two runs in the win. Yonathan Perlaza joined Locastro in the two-hit club for the night, as Perlaza drove in a run on an RBI single in the first inning. Perlaza scored on a base hit by Nate Mondou, who drove in two runs in the ballgame. Marcos Castanon hit his first triple with El Paso in the win, scoring a run on Francisco Acuna’s ninth-inning sacrifice fly. El Paso went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, using productive outs to get the job done. 

The Chihuahuas play their final game of the season on Sunday, with left-hander Luis Gutierrez listed as the scheduled starter. Gutierrez, 22, will be making his Triple-A debut.
