San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Saturday

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 9-3 over Oklahoma City) (40-52 on the season)

Tirso Ornelas– (3-for-4) 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, BB, K

Matthew Batten– (2-for-5) 2B, 2 RBI

Jackson Wolf– 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (75 pitches- 48 strikes)

The El Paso Chihuahuas came back from a 3-0 deficit in their 9-3 win over Oklahoma City. Tirdo Ornelas continued to swing a hit bat as the outfielder went 3-f0r-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. He is hitting .317 on the season with a .909 OPS. Matthew Batten recorded two hits in the win as every member of the starting lineup got a hit except for Eguy Rosario, who was 0-for-3 with two walks. Jackson Wolf started the game and went five innings, allowing two earned runs on 75 pitches.

San Antonio Missions (Won 5-3 over Amarillo) (43-41 on the season)

Micheal De La Cruz- (2-for-4) 2 RBI

Robbie Tenerowicz– (2-for-2) 2B, 3 RBI

Miguel Cienfuegos– 7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K (94 pitches- 64 strikes)

The Missions won 5-3 in a close game with the Sod Poodles. Miguel Cienfuegos struck out 10 batters in the win, going seven strong innings. The 27-year-old lefty has pitched between three levels for the Padres this season, including the El Paso Chihuahuas. If he continues to pitch like this, he may be recalled very soon. Micheal De La Cruz and Robbie Tenerowicz both earned two hits in the win. Marcos Castanon homered for the seventh time on the season.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 7-4 to Great Lakes) (36-50 on the season)

Nerwillian Cedeno-(1-for-3) Run, RBI, BB, K

Joshua Mears– (1-for-3) HR, 2 RBI, Run, BB

Dylan Lesko– 5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 9 K (92 pitches- 53 strikes)

A day after throwing a combined no-hitter, the TinCaps lost 7-4 to the Loons. Dylan Lesko started the game and struck out nine batters in five innings. The big right-handed pitcher also walked three men and allowed three earned runs. Lesko is showing promise but battling consistency and throwing strikes. It will take time for him. Joshua Mears homered in the game, and, at 23, this is likely his last chance to show the promise that the Padres once saw in the powerful outfielder. Nerwillian Cedeno was 1-for-3 in the loss.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 2-1 over Fresno in 10 innings) (43-41 on the season)

Rosman Verdugo– (3-for-4) RBI, K

Ethan Long– (1-for-1) RBI

Miguel Mendez– 5 IP, 4 H, BB, 6 K (88 pitches- 54 strikes)

The Lake Elsinore Storm rallied for a run in the bottom of the 9th and one in the 10th for a 2-1 win over Fresno on Saturday. Ethan Long came off the bench with one out to single in Ryan Wilson. In the 10th, Leodalis De Vries scored the winning run on a single by Jacob Campbell. Rosman Verdugo went 3-for-4 in the win. Leodalis De Vries ended his hitting streak at ten games with an 0-for-2 day at the plate. Miguel Mendez went the first five innings for the Storm and did not allow a run while striking out six batters.

ACL Padres (Lost 8-7 to ACL D-Backs in 10 innings) (21-31 on the season)

L.J. Jones– (2-for-4) HR, Run, 3 RBI, BB, K

Lamar King Jr.- (1-for-3) 2B, Run, RBI, K

Zack Qin-2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 4 K

The ACL D-Backs won on a run scored in the 10th inning as Kleiber Olmedo took the loss. Former Cardinals farm hand and Eastlake High School alum L.J. Jones keeps mashing (2-for-4 with a HR) in Arizona, and he should be in full-season affiliate ball soon. Jones is 25 and played as high as the Double-A level for the Cardinals. I am not sure he is getting anything from abusing ACL pitching. Lamar King Jr. is working his way back from injury and the backstop should be promoted soon as well. Zack Qin started the game and went two innings, striking out four batters.

DSL Padres Brown (Won 5-3 over DSL Padres Gold) (7-20 on the season)

Jason Hernandez– (2-for-4) Run, 2 RBI, K

Dayquer Alfonzo– (2-for-3) Run, BB, SB

Dionicio Nova– 2 IP, 1 H, BB, K (WIN)

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 5-3 to DSL Padres Brown) (12-17 on the season)

Yoiber Ocopio– (1-for-4) 2B, RBI, Run

Kevin Hacen– (1-for-4) RBI, K

Jordan Valenzuela– 2 IP, 1 H, 3 K

The two Padres DL teams battled it out on Saturday with the DSL Brown team coming out on top in a 5-3 win. The DSL Brown team had a shutout going into the seventh inning, but three late runs made the game closer than it actually was. Dionica Nova earned the win as he threw two innings of shutout ball for the Padres Brown team. Jason Hernandez and Dayquer Alfonzo both earned two hits in the win. On the other side, the DSL Padres Gold team was led by Yoiber Ocopio, who went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
