Elzie Harrington, Latrell Davis, & Tae Simmons commit to staying on The Mesa for the 2026-27 season
In major news for the San Diego State Aztecs, forward Tae Simmons and guards Elzie Harrington and Latrell Davis have agreed to a new deal with the team to remain on The Mesa for at least another season. Mesa Aztecs confirmed on social media. Thokbor Majak also confirmed he is returning as well.
This is a grand slam by Brian Dutcher and his staff to maintain these two elite sophomores and a potential offensive star in Davis.
The NCAA Transfer Portal has grabbed hold of almost every player in the country, but not everyone. This trio of rising stars did not enter the portal at all and remains committed to playing with the Aztecs in the Pac-12 next season.

After the difficult end to Harrington’s season, it was expected that he would test the market and enter the portal. However, as a starting point guard, Harrington knew that his role would only expand on this team. When BJ Davis entered the portal, followed by Taj DeGourville, the former freshman realized that the best fit for him was right back in this system with San Diego State.

One source told East Village Times that Harrington was at the Jam Center early last week, putting work in. It’s unclear who joined him.
The other freshman, Simmons, improved throughout the year and became a major factor in the team’s success late in the season. Simmons became a bully in the paint late in conference play and turned into a starter for the team in March. The team relied on him to defend at a high level, while also being a big role player on the glass. On the season, Simmons averaged 5.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game.
Davis might have been the one player who never really threatened to leave, outside of 7-footer Thokbor Majak. After redshirting for all of last season, it did not make sense for him to depart when he sat for a year, knowing he could contribute and play. Dutcher even said after the season ended that the team would have been better with him a part of it. Whether that was a chess move by Dutcher to give Davis confidence to stay or not, seeing the former San Jose State guard suit up for Dutcher next season just made too much sense. Davis is an elite scorer who has an opportunity to average close to 15 points per game next season.
Last week, Rice transfer guard Nick Anderson committed to San Diego State as the second incoming transfer after Jeremiah Cherry committed last week.
What We Know So Far
The understanding is that Thokbor Majak will remain a depth piece for the Aztecs. Starting big man Miles Heide remains in the portal, but a return to SDSU is not out of the running. Dutcher would likely bring him back with open arms, knowing their history. He does not have long to decide.
With this trio returning, it seems that the roster is starting to take shape. Here is an early look at the roster so far.
- Elzie Harrington
- Latrell Davis
- Nick Anderson
- Tae Simmons
- Jeremiah Cherry
- Thokbor Majak
- Zachary White
