Padres minor league affiliates ended the week with a 3-1 finish on Sunday.

Here is our recap of games played.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 19-12 in 10 innings vs Albuquerque) (6-9 on the season)

Marcos Castanon – 2-for-6, Double, Two RBI

Nick Solak – 2-for-4, Home Run

Triston McKenzie – 1.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 2 K (41 pitches – 23 strikes)

El Paso’s Sunday game really had it all (except for a win). The Chihuahuas picked up 13 hits in 10 innings, drawing five walks. Despite going 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position, El Paso lost 19-12.

Marcos Castanon had two hits, including a two-run double to tie the game at eight. Nick Solak hit his first home run of the season in the seventh, and he was one of two Chihuahuas to homer in the game. Rodolfo Duran was the other, shaking off a quiet series with a two-run home run.

Sung-Mun Song hit two singles and drew a walk, also driving in a run and making an impressive relay throw to cut down the go-ahead run. Song has hit .280 in 14 rehab games, despite striking out in 16 of 50 at-bats, and his rehab assignment is tentatively set to end on April 17.

Triston McKenzie made the start on three days’ rest, and though he pitched a scoreless first inning, he was not able to escape the second. Vimael Machin hit a homer with one out off a McKenzie curveball, and McKenzie walked three of the next four batters to load the bases with two out. Cole Carrigg tripled to clear the bases, and Ryan Ritter took a hanging 91 mph slider over the wall for a two-run homer, chasing the Chihuahuas’ starter.

Jackson Wolf struck out three in 1.1 innings of relief on 17 pitches. Sean Boyle allowed two runs in 3.1 innings of relief, and Alek Jacob picked up five outs in a scoreless outing. Jacob has yet to allow a run in 7.1 innings this season, striking out six. Logan Gillaspie allowed the tying run in the ninth and was charged with five more runs in the tenth. Miguel Cienfuegos allowed five runs while recording only one out. Misael Tamarez, the third Chihuahuas pitcher of the inning, retired two batters on five pitches to end the 10-run inning.

San Antonio Missions (Won 1-0 vs Corpus Christi) (3-6 on the season)

Tirso Ornelas – 1-for-4, Single

Luis Verdugo – 0-for-1, Two Walks, Run Scored

Luis Gutierrez – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K (66 pitches – 43 strikes)

A dominant pitching performance led San Antonio to salvage the final game of the series, as the Missions shut out the visiting Hooks by a 1-0 final. Starting pitcher Luis Gutierrez earned Player of the Game honors with five scoreless innings of one-hit baseball. The left-hander struck out six opponents, touching as high as 97 mph on his four-seam fastball. Gutierrez’s stock has steadily been on the rise since early last season, and if he continues to dominate as he has so far, his name could enter the Major League conversation in no time.

The Missions’ bullpen allowed one hit and one walk in four innings the rest of the way. Francis Pena, Andrew Dalquist, Johan Moreno, and Sadrac Franco each worked a scoreless inning in the win. Franco’s outing was worth noting, as the right-hander shook off a tough-luck loss on Friday to pick up his first save of the season in this game.

At the plate, the Missions registered only two hits on the scoreboard, but four walks drawn played a role in the lone run of the game scoring. Luis Verdugo walked against Hooks starter Trey Dombrowski, and one out later, a single by Carson Tucker and a Chris Sargent walk loaded the bases. With Kai Roberts at the plate, a passed ball by catcher Garret Guillemette allowed Verdugo to score. Tirso Ornelas picked up the team’s only other hit of the game. With the win, San Antonio took the final two games of the six-game series, going into a road series in Midland.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 5-3 vs Lansing) (3-6 on the season)

Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Two Doubles

Jack Costello – 1-for-1, Home Run, Two RBI

Abraham Parra – 4 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K (72 pitches – 37 strikes)

Fort Wayne snapped a brief two-game losing skid with a 5-3 win over Lansing. The TinCaps came out slugging, as they went for seven extra-base hits in the victory. Zach Evans, back in the lineup for the first time in four games, went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with two doubles and a run scored. Carlos E. Rodriguez finished 2-for-4 as well, driving in Evans on a double of his own.

Jack Costello launched his second home run of the season in the third inning. His two-run home run gave the Missions a 3-1 lead at the time. Though the Lugnuts tied the game in the fourth and fifth innings, Fort Wayne took a lead in the seventh inning. Dylan Grego hit an RBI double to score Costello, giving the TinCaps a 4-3 lead, and Alex McCoy launched his second homer in as many days to tack on an insurance run. Through eight games played, McCoy leads the TinCaps with a .940 OPS, and hit the hardest ball in all of affiliated ball this season on an 119.5 mph groundout.

Abraham Parra worked around seven hits in four innings of two-run baseball. While the right-hander did not have a 1-2-3 frame at any point, he was able to limit the damage thanks to inducing weak contact when needed. Parra walked two and struck out two, picking up four of 12 outs via the ground ball.

Luis German allowed a run in two innings of relief, striking out one batter. Kleiber Olmedo, who threw three innings of relief on Thursday, threw two innings with three strikeouts to earn the win, and Igor Gil fanned one in a scoreless ninth for his first High-A save.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 14-6 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (4-5 on the season)

Bradley Frye – 2-for-4, Home Run. Three RBI

Justin DeCriscio – 3-for-5, Triple, Three RBI

Landry Jurecka – 3.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 K (62 pitches – 39 strikes)

Lake Elsinore sealed a series split with the new Quakes with a 14-6 win on Sunday. The bottom of the Storm’s lineup had itself a day, as Conner Westenburg, Justin DeCriscio, and Jose Verdugo combined to go 7-for-12 with two triples and six RBI. Westenburg did not make an out in the game and is now hitting .500 with a 1.167 OPS over his first nine games. Justin DeCriscio finished with three hits, including a triple, while driving in three runs.

Bradley Frye had himself a day, hitting his first career home run over the Ad Monster in right field as part of a multi-hit showing. Ryan Wideman reached base twice on balls that would have resulted in RBI had it not been for fielding errors by the Quakes, and while the runs still scored, they did not account for any RBI. Wideman scored on a base hit by Truitt Madonna, who also drew a walk in the win. Jorge Quintana is finding his stroke at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with two singles, scoring twice. The Storm stole five bases in the game, going 5-for-7 in that department.

The pitching staff had a strong day in the California sunshine, as Landry Jurecka made his first career start. The right-hander was effective through 3.1 innings, striking out six batters. Six of 10 outs came via the strikeout, which was a good sign for the former 18th-rounder. Jurecka was charged with four runs, with three coming in a four-batter stretch in the second inning. Jurecka walked Lucas Ramirez with one out in the fourth, signaling the end of his outing.

Javier Chacon came on in relief, and while the inherited runner scored, the Quakes were held to one in the frame. Chacon allowed one run of his own in 2.1 innings of relief, striking out two. Nick Falter threw 2.1 innings of relief with one run allowed. While he struck out just one, Falter allowed only two baserunners and negated one with an eighth-inning pickoff. Sean Barnett threw a scoreless ninth inning with two punchouts to seal the win.
