According to multiple reports, Leagues Cup officials are finalizing plans to stage matches in Mexico as part of the 2026 edition of the tournament.

If confirmed, the move would mark another significant step in the competition’s ongoing evolution.

The Leagues Cup has undergone steady adjustments in recent years. For the 2025 edition, organizers restructured group placements to reduce travel demands on Liga MX clubs. In previous tournaments, Mexican sides were required to crisscross the United States two or three times within a matter of weeks — a taxing schedule that raised concerns about player fatigue and competitive balance.

The burden of constant travel, combined with playing every match away from home, prompted questions about priorities and performance levels among some Liga MX teams, particularly those with limited roster depth. The revised format in 2025 aimed to address those concerns, and the potential inclusion of matches in Mexico in 2026 would represent a further effort to create greater parity.

From a sporting perspective, expanded hosting opportunities could allow clubs to better manage squad rotation and provide meaningful minutes to emerging players. At the same time, it would elevate the overall competitive integrity of the event.
