Friar Faithful Podcast: San Diego Padres Prospect Talk
San Diego Padres Friar Faithful podcast.
On this week’s second upload of the Friar Faithful Podcast, James Clark of East Village Times joins the show on a minor-league only podcast.
James and Deegs kick the show off by talking about MacKenzie Gore‘s debut with the Amarillo Sod Poodles and also briefly highlight Jorge Oña’s mysterious injury.
A major topic discussed between the two was the massive 40-man roster crunch that will take place this upcoming off-season. With several talented prospects eligible for the Rule-5 draft, the Padres’ front office will have to make a slew of challenging decisions as to whom they will add to the 40-man roster.
James briefly discussed a handful of under-the-radar prospects who are having strong seasons both in the DSL and Arizona Rookie League. While it’s not common for prospects from the DSL to jump onto the season, the Padres’ have a few talented young prospects down in the Dominican who could find themselves onto several top prospects lists in the coming years.
The two hosts spent the remainder of the episode briefly discussing several hot topics in the Padres’ prospect spectrum. They spoke about both Adrian Morejon and Michel Baez‘s futures at the big league level, Joey Cantillo‘s strong 2019, Edward Olivares making himself a well-known player, and the incredible offensive season Luis Campusano is having at the plate.
