The San Diego Padres’ affiliates went 1-3 on the day, with the Lake Elsinore Storm winning on Sunday.

The Arizona Complex league and Dominican Summer League teams were both idle.  Here is a recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 5-1 to Sugar Land) (40-59 on the season)

SS Matt Batten – 2-for-4, K, SB

DH Luis Campusano – 2-for-4, RBI, 2B, HR, K

RP Parker Markel – 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K

RP Steven Wilson – 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 K

It was a game of home runs between El Paso and Sugar Land on Sunday, with the Skeeters getting the best of the Chihuahuas in the end.  Sugar Land took the lead in the top of the fourth on a three-run home run by left fielder J.J. Matijevic.  Down three runs, the Chihuahuas got a run back right away on a solo home run by DH Luis Campusano.  Campusano also collected a double on the day.  Sugar Land would add on a two-run home run in the fifth to put them up 5-1, which would end up holding through the end of the game.

San Antonio Missions (Lost 4-3 to Midland) (48-53 on the season)

1B Allen Cordoba – 2-for-3, BB

3B Olivier Basabe – 2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2B, HR, 2 R

CF Esteury Ruiz – 1-for-4, RBI, K

RP Henry Henry – 2.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 K

The Missions fell shy of coming back from being down 4-1 heading into the fifth inning.  A two-run home run by San Antonio third baseman Olivier Basabe cut the Midland lead down to 4-3, but it was not enough for the Missions.  The RockHounds would hold on to the lead for the victory, 4-3. The Missions were held to only six hits but did get four scoreless innings out of their bullpen to finish the game.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 8-6 to Dayton) (49-53 on the season)

CF Robert Hassell III – 0-for-4, R, BB, K

SS Justin Lopez – 3-for-4, 2B, R, 4 RBI

LF Luis Almanzar – 1-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB, K

RP Luke Boyd – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K

The TinCaps fell in a back and forth game to Dayton that featured a lot of offense, including six runs in the final three innings.  Newly-promoted center fielder Robert Hassell III had a quiet day overall, going 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Fort Wayne shortstop Justin Lopez led the way offensively for Fort Wayne, collecting three hits.  His RBI double in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at three, but unfortunately, the Fort Wayne pitching did not hold things down.  Four separate pitchers allowed runs for Fort Wayne, ultimately making a comeback much more difficult.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 2-1 over San Jose) (45-56 on the season)

3B Lucas Dunn – 1-for-4, HR, RBI, K

RF Jack Stronach – 2-for-2, BB

RP Dwayne Matos – 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K

RP Jason Reynolds – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB

In a low-scoring affair between Lake Elsinore and San Jose, the Storm used two first-inning runs to hold on and defeat the Giants.  After taking a quick 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Joshua Mears and a solo home run by third baseman Lucas Dunn, the Storm looked poised to break out on Sunday.  It was the pitching, however, that stole the show.  Using six different pitchers, the Storm held San Jose to one run and held on for a 2-1 pitching duel.
