Down on the Farm: Winter League Roundup- November 7
The San Diego Padres minor league prospects had a busy Tuesday night, as 11 players were in action.
The Javelinas lost 5-1, but five different Padres players participated in the game, including three pitchers.
With a 13-10 record, the Javelinas still hold a three-game lead over the Surprise Saguaros in the AFL West division.
In the Dominican Republic, Fernando Tatis and Franchy Cordero both played. Fernando Perez continued his hitting in Mexico and Luis Torrens continues to play everyday in the Venezuelan Winter league…just what the backstop needs.
ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE
Josh Naylor was 1-4 on the day with tw0 strikeouts. He has struck out 12 times in 71 at bats so far this season, while only recording two walks. Strange, as Naylor usually has better strikeout to walk numbers than that. He is down to .296 on the season with his average.
Luis Urias went 1-2 on Tuesday with a walk. He is hitting .333 on the year and has been playing both second base and shortstop for the Javelinas.
T.J. Weir went 0.2 inning pitched without allowing a run. He has a 1.59 ERA so far this year.
David Bednar continues to impress as he went a scoreless inning on Tuesday. He struck out one and lowered his ERA to 1.29 on the year.
Andres Munoz is nasty and people are beginning to take notice. The fireballing right-handed pitcher threw a scoreless inning on Tuesday, walking one and striking out one. He was clocked at 99 mph with his high-riding fastball.
CARIBBEAN/MEXICAN/VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUES
Fernando Perez has been on fire in Mexico as he is hitting .366 on the year and has a 1.066 OPS. He went 1-3 on Tuesday with a triple, a run scored, and a strikeout.
Franchy Cordero went 0-3 on Tuesday with two strikeouts. He is down to .288 on the season as he has been in a bit of a slump.
Luis Torrens went 1-5 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. He also struck out twice, but the backstop has seen plenty of action in Venezuela.
Fernando Tatis Jr. was 1-2 with a walk on Tuesday. He also made two more errors at shortstop as there are some valid concerns about his ability to play the position moving forward. Tatis is hitting .245 on the year for his DR team.
Diego Goris was 1-3 on Tuesday and the third baseman is now hitting .231 on the year.
Cesar Vargas threw two scoreless innings and his ERA is at 2.86 ERA for the year in Mexico.

I think at this point, Tatis’ struggles at SS are in his head.
