Down on the Farm: June 1 (DSL Padres debut/Mejia with three hits as El Paso scores 24 runs)
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 2-3 on Saturday.
Here is a brief recap of the day’s action.
El Paso Chihuahuas Won 24-4 (35-21 on the season)
Every hitter for the Chihuahuas had at least one hit and one RBI while the Chihuahuas set a new team record for runs scored and doubles. The top three hitters of the lineup in Franchy Cordero, Luis Urias, and Francisco Mejia went a combined 10-18 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 11 RBI, and three walks. Michael Gettys had five RBI as well, and the team had nine walks as a team. Jose Pirela did leave the game early after taking an accidental knee to the face, and it is unknown how long he will be out.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 6-4 (27-26 on the season)
Despite falling behind early, the Sod Poodles rallied for the win and are now a game above .500. Two runs scored off of Lake Bachar in the first and second inning, but the Soddies took the lead in the fourth inning on a Brad Zunica RBI single and two sacrifice flies. Amarillo picked up two more runs in the next inning on a Luis Torrens RBI double and a Kyle Overstreet RBI single. Torrens padded the lead with a sacrifice fly, and Dauris Valdez closed out the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

Lake Elsinore Storm Lost 7-5 (27-27 on the season)
A six-run second inning by the San Jose Giants sank the Lake Elsinore Storm as the Storm dropped the fourth game of the series. All runs were charged to Caleb Boushley, who allowed seven runs on ten hits, including a two-run home run hit by Courtney Hawkins. However, a fielding error in the second inning also allowed three of those runs allowed by Boushley to be unearned. Lake Elsinore broke the goose egg in the fifth inning when Jalen Washington hit an RBI triple to drive in Tirso Ornelas. A three-run eighth inning, headlined by Gabriel Arias‘ RBI double, got the Storm closer but it was the last run Lake Elsinore would score.

The Great Lake Loons jumped all over Ryan Weathers in the first inning of play as they scored four runs on three hits and a fielding error. Fort Wayne was unable to find an answer for John Rooney and Guillermo Zuniga as the offense struck out nine times and collected four total hits against the pair. The Loons scored seven more runs, including four on a grand slam in the fourth inning before the game was canceled in the eighth inning due to rain.

DSL Padres Lost 5-1
The DSL Padres made their season debut today against the Arizona Diamondbacks DSL squad. The group fell behind early in the game as starter Jesus Cisneros allowed three runs to cross the plate in the first three innings. The D-Backs picked up another two runs in the sixth inning off of Jonfy Diaz, who was in his second inning of work. The first and only Padres run came in the ninth inning when Axcel Peralta scored on a fielding error.
