Down on the Farm: July 3 (Naylor Goes Deep Twice, Storm Lose in Extras)

Josh Naylor hit two home runs to bring his season total to 12.
San Antonio and Fort Wayne both picked up wins on July 3.
Lake Elsinore lost on the road in extra innings to the Modesto Nuts. Here is the July 3 edition of the East Village Times daily farm recap.
Albuquerque Isotopes 11, El Paso Chihuahuas 5
Colin Rea had a less-than-stellar evening for the Chihuahuas. He went just four innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. He got through the first two innings unscathed, but gave up six runs over the next two. He left after the fourth inning.
The El Paso offense was held to only five hits on the night. Forrestt Allday had two of those hits, as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. He had a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
After scoring six runs in the first four innings, Albuquerque was held at bay until the top of the ninth. Brad Wieck gave up four of the five runs scored in the inning. El Paso tried to mount a late rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Brett Nicholas hit an RBI-double, and Shane Patterson hit into an RBI-groundout. Allday scored on a wild pitch.
San Antonio Missions 7, Arkansas Travelers 6
Josh Naylor went deep twice to power the Missions past the Arkansas Travelers on the road, 7-6. Naylor hit a solo shot in the first, and had a two-run blast in the top of the ninth. That tuned out to be the deciding hit in this one.Naylor went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Fernando Tatis, Jr. was 1-for-5 with a run scored. He has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, bringing his batting average to .283. Ty France went 4-for-5 and scored two runs.
Miguel Diaz was the starting pitcher for the Missions. He went just three-and-two-thirds innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits. He had three walks and a strikeout.
San Antonio jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Naylor hit a solo home run, and Kyle Overstreet hit an RBI-single. Nick Schulz hit a two-run shot that scored Overstreet to make the score 4-0.
Overstreet hit another RBI-single in the third inning to make the score 5-1. Arkansas scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap, 5-4. That remained the score until the top of the ninth, when Naylor drove in Tatis, Jr. with a two-run home run. Arkansas scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but the Missions were able to hang on for the win.
Modesto Nuts 4, Lake Elsinore Storm 3 (10 innings)
Lake Elsinore gave up a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth, which led to them losing in extras on the road to the Modesto Nuts. Blake Rogers (2-2) picked up the loss, as he gave up the winning run.
Miguel Baez made the start for the Storm. He went five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out seven and allowed two walks.
Hudson Potts, Luis Torrens and Nate Easley all had two hits for Lake Elsinore. Kelvin Melean had two RBI.
Easley scored on an error in the top of the third inning for the game’s first run. The Storm extended that lead in the top of the fourth. Jorge Ona hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0. Melean added an RBI-single for his second RBI of the game.
Modesto’s Kevin Santa scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score 3-3. That was the score after nine innings, and the game went to the 10th. Modesto’s Bryson Brigman hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th to give the Nuts a walkoff.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, Great Lakes Loons 0
Hits were not hard to come by, but runs were still at a premium in this game. Fort Wayne scored a run in the first and another in the third to win 2-0.
Esteury Ruiz led the way offensively with three hits and a run scored. Luis Almanzar was the only other player to have a multi-hit game, getting two knocks.
Jeisson Rosario scored in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly hit by Nick Feight. Ruiz scored in the top of the third, on an RBI-single by Justin Lopez.
Osvaldo Hernandez started on the mound for the TinCaps. He scattered six hits over six innings. He struck out five and didn’t allow a walk. With the win, the TinCaps improve to 41-41, and are 9-4 in the second half standings in the Midwest League Eastern Division. They trail the Lansing Lugnuts by one game in the division.
Boise Hawks 7, Tri-City Dust Devils 3
Tri-City fell behind early and stayed behind the rest of the way, losing 7-3 to the Boise Hawks at home. Henry Henry picked up his first loss of the season, giving up five runs on seven hits over six innings pitched. He struck out eight and walked one.
Luke Becker led the Tri-City offense by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mason House and Grant Little each had an RBI.
Boise scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Little drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. The Dust Devils added a run in the fourth and another in the sixth, but weren’t able to catch up to Boise.
Dominican Summer League Blue Jays 8, Dominican Summer League Padres 6 (11 innings)
Yeison Santana was 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, and Brandon Valenzuela had two RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the Padres fell 8-6 in extras to the Blue Jays.
Miguel Rondon went six innings and gave up just two runs on four hits. He struck out seven and didn’t issue walk.
Santana’s triple came in the bottom of the fourth inning. It came with the game tied 2-2. Luis Paez scored to give the Padres a 3-2 lead. The Blue Jays tied the score 3-3 in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the inning, Valenzuela broke the tie with an RBI-double. He scored later in the inning to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Padres.
The Blue Jays scored a run in the eighth, and scored again in the ninth to tie the score 5-5. The Blue Jays scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to go up 8-5. The Padres scored once in the bottom of the 11th, but the Blue Jays were able to hold on for an 8-6 win.
