Down on the Farm: July 27 (Offensive Explosions Everywhere/Kennedy Wins 10th)
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 5-3 on Friday.
Here is a recap of the day’s action:
El Paso Chihuahuas (56-48) Won 8-2
Brett Kennedy won his tenth game of the year after allowing two runs in the first inning, and was picked up by an offense that gained steam in the later innings of the game. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Shane Peterson led to Diego Goris clearing the bases the next at-bat with a grand slam that catapulted El Paso into the lead. El Paso continued to pile on the runs in the final three innings, including a sacrifice fly from Auston Bousfield in the seventh inning, a pinch-hit RBI single from Francisco Mejia in the eighth inning, and a RBI single off the bat of Peterson in the ninth for good measure.
Shane Peterson: 1-4, 2 RBI, R, BB, 2 K
Diego Goris: 1-4, GS, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Francisco Mejia: 1-1, RBI
Javy Guerra: 4-4, 2B

San Antonio Mission (62-42) Won 9-3
The Missions continued their winning ways, picking up their fourth win out of five games on the back of a three-RBI game from Michael Gettys. Gettys had a RBI double in the second inning as well as a two-run single in the fourth inning that put San Antonio ahead for good. The Missions padded their lead with a five-run sixth inning, which began on a Peter Van Gansen RBI single and ended with a two-run single by River Stevens. Lake Bachar shrugged off a three-run first to pitch six total innings while striking out four batters.
Michael Gettys: 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R, K
Austin Allen: 3-4, 3 R, 2B
Peter Van Gansen: 1-1, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB
River Stevens: 1-4, 2 RBI
Lake Bachar: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K (97 pitches-67 strikes) Win
Lake Elsinore Storm (52-54) Won 8-2
The Storm snapped a three-game winning streak and started their series against Stockton on the right foot with a victory. Michel Baez pitched a dandy of a game, throwing five innings of one-run ball while striking out eight batters, allowing a single run on a groundball out. Lake Elsinore took the lead in the sixth inning on a RBI double off the bat of Jorge Ona, while two wild pitches in the eighth inning brought home Edward Olivares and Hudson Potts.  Ruddy Giron would smack a two-RBI double to pad Lake Elsinore’s lead.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (47-55) Lost 8-6
Despite a strong offensive showing, the TinCaps were outslugged by the Dayton Dragons, who were propelled by a five-run seventh inning. The five-run seventh came off of reliever Jose Quezada, who surrendered all five runs in the inning due to a grand slam immediately followed by a solo home run. Quezada had relieved MacKenzie Gore, who had pitched the past five innings and allowed three runs while striking out seven batters. Fort Wayne had a four-run lead at one point in the game, with home runs by Esteury Ruiz and Gabriel Arias providing half of the six runs scored.
Gabriel Arias: 2-4, HR, RBI, 2 R, 2 K

Tri-City Dust Devils (19-23) Won 9-3
Even though starter Angel Acevedo allowed five runs in five innings pitched, the Tri-City offense pulled through for the starter by spotting him a seven-run lead that wouldn’t be relinquished. Luis Asuncion picked up three RBI in the game, one coming off a solo home run. Owen Miller raised his batting average to .319 with a three-hit game while picking up his 15th and 16th RBI. Tri-City’s relievers held off the opposing hitters with relative ease as Jonathan Guzman allowed only an unearned run in an inning and two-thirds innings while Dan Dallas pitched two and one-thirds scoreless innings, striking out five to earn his first save of the year.
Owen Miller: 3-4: 2 RBI, BB, K, CS
Luis Asuncion: 3-5: HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 K
Olivier Basabe: 1-4, RBI, R

AZL Padres 1 (13-17) Won 12-8
In a wild game featuring plenty of offense, the Padres surged back from a four-run deficit after blowing a three-run lead. The AZL Indians rallied for a seven-run sixth inning, with all of the runs coming off of Alexuan Vega. A five-run eighth inning, as well as a four-run ninth inning, slingshotted the Padres into the lead, with six of the Padres’ runs coming off of a bases-clearing double and a base-clearing single from Tyler Benson.  Luis Guzman struck a two-run double shortly after Benson’s double. Xavier Edwards played four innings at shortstop and had three at-bats as he continues to slowly come back to his position after a nagging wrist injury.
Tyler Benson: 3-5, 6 RBI, 3 R, 2B, K
Reinaldo Ilarraza: 2-5, RBI, R, 2B,
Luis Guzman: 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB

AZL Padres 2 (16-15) Lost 4-3
The Padres 2 squad grinded for nine innings, but couldn’t come out on top as the AZL Mariners got the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a passed ball allowed by Alison Quintero. A Sean Guilbe home run in the first inning put the Padres 2 in the lead in the first inning, while a two-run single from Jonny Homza in the fifth inning gave the lead right back after the Mariners tied up the ballgame. Tucupita Marcano continued to hit well as he scored a run and singled in the loss.
Sean Guilbe: 1-2, HR, RBI, R, 2 BB, K
Jonny Homza: 1-4, 2 RBI
Jason Pineda: 1-3, BB, 2 K
Manny Guzman: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 R, 2 BBÂ No Decision
Mason Fox: 2 IP, BB, 3 K
DSL Padres (25-21) Lost 8-3
The DSL Padres got fine pitching performances out of Miguel Rondon and Jesus Gonzales, but it was the final two innings from Carlos Guarate and some mishaps on defense that blew the game. Rondon and Gonzales kept the young squad in the game, combining for seven innings, and allowed three runs (albeit one earned) while striking out seven batters. Yanger Morales got the Padres on the board with a RBI single in the sixth inning while a two-run shot from Emmanuel Garcia got the Padres to within three runs.
Emmanuel Garcia: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R, K
Yanger Morales: 1-4, RBI
Cristian Heredia: 2-3, 2B, R, BB
