San Diego State unveiled a 17-match schedule for 2026 on Wednesday, June 3, in its first season competing in the rebuilt Pac-12 Conference, with lots to look forward to.

Nine matches will be played at home on the SDSU Sports Deck, including the program’s conference opener against Boise State on Oct. 1 — a rematch loaded with recent history.

The Broncos ended San Diego State’s 2025 season in the Mountain West semifinals, surviving a tense 1-1 draw before advancing on penalty kicks. It was a bitter ending for an Aztec squad that had shut out Colorado State days earlier and appeared poised for a run at the conference title.

Now, less than a year later, Boise State will become the first Pac-12 opponent to visit The Mesa.

If there is a symbolic passing of the torch from one conference era to another, that match may be it.

The schedule also highlights the unusual nature of the new Pac-12, where several former Mountain West rivals remain on the calendar. Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State all make appearances, giving the conference slate a familiar look despite the new logo on the field.

But there are plenty of fresh challenges.

Texas State joins the schedule for the first time in program history. Gonzaga, another unfamiliar opponent, makes its first trip to San Diego after the schools last met more than three decades ago. Oregon State returns to the schedule for the first time since 2010, while Washington State renews a series that has been dormant for nearly a decade.

The conference season begins Oct. 1 and stretches into early November before the Pac-12 Tournament, where only the top four teams will qualify.

Road tests arrive early

Before conference play begins, the Aztecs will spend much of September away from home.

After opening the regular season Aug. 12 at UC San Diego, San Diego State hosts Portland State, Washington, and Pacific before embarking on a demanding three-match road swing through Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Utah Valley.

The stretch represents a series of return games from recent home-and-home agreements.

Oklahoma State and Utah Valley both traveled to San Diego in 2024. Texas Tech opened the 2025 season on The Mesa. This fall, the Aztecs make the return trip to all three.

For a team entering a new conference, those matches could serve as an early measuring stick.

Washington may provide one of the more intriguing nonconference matchups. The Huskies have not faced SDSU since 2014, when the Aztecs earned a 2-1 victory in Portland. Pepperdine also returns to the schedule after San Diego State earned a dramatic 3-2 road win in Malibu last season.

Familiar faces in a new conference

The rebuilt Pac-12 was designed around regional rivalries and existing relationships, and SDSU’s schedule reflects that.

Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and Utah State all remain annual opponents despite the conference change.

The Aztecs tied Colorado State twice last season before eliminating the Rams in the Mountain West Tournament. Fresno State battled SDSU to a draw in Fresno, while Utah State remains one of the program’s most frequent opponents over the last 15 years.

Instead of chasing a Mountain West title, San Diego State begins establishing itself in a conference that includes longtime Pac-12 members Oregon State and Washington State, while adding newcomers from across the West.

The transition arrives at a pivotal moment for the program.

The Aztecs finished 9-4-6 last season and reached the Mountain West semifinals for the second straight year. Freshman goalkeeper Kailey Carlen emerged as one of the conference’s top young players, while SDSU continued to build a reputation for its defense and postseason consistency.

The next challenge is proving those traits translate to a new league.

The path begins Aug. 12 in La Jolla.
