Aztecs adding talent and depth to roster via the transfer portal

Throughout the past week, the San Diego State Aztecs have worked to solicit commitments and signings from the group of incoming transfer portal players. 

To date, the Aztecs have signed fifteen players from the transfer portal. 

  • Stone Saunders, QB – Redshirt Freshman (Kentucky)

Finished his prep career as Pennsylvania’s all-time leading passer with 13,719 yards, 781 completions and 204 touchdowns and won two state championships

  • Javion Kinnard, RB – Sophomore (Colorado State)

Selected to the All-Mountain West Second-Team as a punt returner and caught 18 passes for 228 yards out of the backfield

  • Matthew Montgomery, OL – Junior (Western Illinois)

Started 9 games in 2025 (2 at RT, 7 at LT) earning a 62.1 PFF grade

  • Mercer Luniewski, OL – Sophomore (Michigan State)

Not played any snaps on offense in two collegiate years

  • Charlton Luniewski, OL – Sophomore (Michigan State)

Only played 6 snaps at LT in 2024 and did not play in 2025

  • Dennis Jones, OL – Senior (Texas Southern)

Started 11 games at RG in 2023, started 1 game at RG and 2 games at LG in 2024, and started 11 games at RT, LT or RG in 2025 earning a 67.7 PFF grade

  • Tuaoa Tauili’ili, DT – Junior (Portland State, Idaho State)

Totaled 31 tackles and 4.5 TFLs across three collegiate years

  • Nate Henrich, EDGE – Junior (Gannon, Saint Francis)

Totaled 30 tackles, 2.5 TFLs across four collegiate years

  • Kai Wallin, EDGE – Senior (Oregon State, Nebraska)

Recorded 17 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack and 4 QBHs in 2025

  • Cameron Cooper, LB – Junior (Western Colorado)

Named First-Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 81 tackles, 14 TFLs and 5 sacks in 2025 and named RMAC Freshman Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 with 66 tackles and 2 INTs

  • Caleb Ricks, CB – Sophomore (Idaho)

Named to the FCS Football Central 2025 Freshman All-American Team, collecting 26 tackles and 1 INT while earning the fourth-highest grade for CBs in the Big Sky per PFSN (89.8). 

  • Jason Oliver, CB – Senior (Sacramento State, Colorado)

Named Honorable Mention All-Big Sky in 2025 with 36 tackles, 8 PBUs and 2 INTs

  • Jalen Thomeson, S – Junior (Ohio)

Totaled 86 tackles, 7 TFLs, 1 INT and 1 FF/FR in 2025

  • Solomon Davis, S – Junior (Oregon)

Played primarily on special teams through three collegiate years, but added six tackles and half a sack in 2025 on defense

  • Isaiah Green, S – Sophomore (Portland State)

Named Honorable Mention All-Big Sky with 100 tackles, 4 TFLs and 1 FF

 

In addition to those that have already made it official by signing pledges, the Aztecs have secured verbal commitments from six additional players. 

  • Gavriel Lightfoot, DT – Senior (Colorado, Fresno State)

Spent all of 2025 recovering from injury, totaled 66 tackles, 5 TFLs and 1 sack in three collegiate years at Fresno State; became the first true freshman to start on the interior defensive line for the Bulldogs since 1997

  • Sione Hala, LB – Senior (Weber State, Boston College)

Totaled 64 tackles, 8 TFLs, 1 INT and 3 PBUs in 2025

  • Isaac Lucas, OL – Junior (Ball State)

Lucas played six snaps at C in 2024, but moved to RG in 2025 and started nine games, earning a 62.2 PFF grade

  • Aldrich Doe, WR – Senior (Bryant)

Caught 37 passes for 467 yards and 2 TDs in 2025

  • Marshel Sanders, WR – Sophomore (College of the Sequoias)

Caught 70 passes for 929 yards and 4 TDs in 2025

  • Kime Fangupo, TE – Sophomore (Snow College)

Caught 5 passes for 30 yards and rushed once for 17 yards in 2025

 

The Aztecs only have a couple scholarships left pending any additional departures, likely utilizing those for players at EDGE, WR and QB. 

The transfer portal closes on January 15 and classes begin at SDSU on January 20.
