San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Sunday.

Here’s a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 6-2 vs Sugar Land) (31-44 on the season)
Graham Pauley – (2-for-4) RBI Single
Oscar Mercado – (1-for-4) RBI Triple
Alek Jacob – 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (31 pitches, 19 strikes)

Ryan Carpenter had another difficult start for the Chihuahuas, as the 33-year old southpaw allowed four runs on eight hits across 4.1 innings. Alek Jacob and Jayvien Sandridge had notable outings, as both tossed scoreless outings. Jacob would record five outs, including two strikeouts, and Sandridge would toss a scoreless frame of his own. With the Padres’ bullpen experiencing heavy usage, an arm like Jacob could be nearing a call-up.

The offense did not have a great day at the plate. Without Eguy Rosario and Brett Sullivan in the lineup, the offense only registered five hits and four walks. Graham Pauley recorded two hits, including an RBI single, and Oscar Mercado recorded an RBI triple. The team went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, unable to come back from an early deficit missing some of their regulars, as Bryce Johnson was inactive for the game (as he was in San Diego on the “taxi squad”).

San Antonio Missions (Won 2-1 vs Amarillo in 10 innings) (31-37 on the season)
Robert Perez Jr – (1-for-4) Game Winning RBI
Robbie Tenerowicz – (1-for-4) Home Run
Austin Krob – 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K (81 pitches, 56 strikes)

If there was a candidate for the starters’ performance of the year, Austin Krob’s start today would be in the running. On a mere 81 pitches, the left-hander pitched like a man on a mission. Krob would punch out 12 hitters in seven innings, walking only two and working his way out of a seventh-inning jam. Ethan Routzahn would record the win in relief, firing two shutout frames.

The offense’s lone run in regulation came off a home run by Robbie Tenerowicz. The 29-year-old has homered five times with the Missions, reaching base at a .351 clip. Zach Reks would walk three times, and Robert Perez Jr would hit the go-ahead sac fly in the 10th inning to lead to a 2-1 Missions win. Brandon Valenzuela would go hitless in four at-bats but would reach once via the walk.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-5 vs Wisconsin) (30-39 on the season)
Nerwilian Cedeño – (1-for-3) RBI Double
Romeo Sanabria – (2-for-2) 2 RBI
Braden Nett – 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

In a scheduled bullpen game, the TinCaps’ pitching staff struck out nine batters while allowing only seven hits. Braden Nett started and tossed two scoreless frames with four strikeouts. The Padres’ No. 15 prospect started slow this season but has now been scoreless in two of his last three appearances. Right-hander Sam Whiting also made his first High-A appearance since April 28, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing one run. It is not yet clear if the right-hander will be working as a starter or reliever yet, as he started all of his appearances with Lake Elsinore.

Romeo Sanabria, recently promoted to High-A, went 2-for-2 in the game. Verdugo would drive in two runs, and Nerwilian Cedeño would hit a first-inning RBI double. Homer Bush Jr and Ethan Salas would each reach base once in the game as well, with Bush scoring a run. Anthony Vilar would go 3-for-4 in the game as well.

I'd like this amount to

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 6-4 vs Visalia) (33-34 on the season)
Nick Vogt – (1-for-4) Home Run
Braedon Karpathios – (2-for-4) Double, 3 RBI
Isaiah Lowe – 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 6 K (89 pitches, 53 strikes)

Despite a season-high four runs allowed, Isaiah Lowe would manage to record the win, going five innings and striking out six batters. Lowe didn’t have his best stuff in the game, but was able to push through. Lowe now has a 2.73 ERA across eight starts this season, excellent results for the 2022 11th rounder.

The offense managed to record hits in half of their opportunities with runners in scoring position, going 3-for-6 in that category. Braedon Karpathios went 2-for-4 with a three-RBI double, and Nick Vogt hit his fifth homer of the year. Oswaldo Linares would also homer in the game, driving in two runs. Leodalis De Vries went hitless in four at-bats, and J.D. Gonzalez did not play in the game.
