San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-3 on Friday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-6 over Las Vegas) (25-36 on the season)

Oscar Mercado– (1-for-4) HR, 2 RBI, Run

Matthew Batten– (2-for-4) 3B, 2B, Run, RBI, BB

Eguy Rosario– (1-for-4) HR, 2 RBI, Run, BB, 2 K

Ryan Carpenter– 3 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 K (78 pitches- 46 strikes)

El Paso won at home, powered by a three-run 6th inning. The Chihuahuas slugged two homers in the game as Eguy Rosario and Osacr Mercado both went deep in the game. Matthew Batten went 2-for-4 with a triple, double, an RBI, and a run scored. Each member of the starting lineup for the Chihuahuas earned a hit in the game. The team was 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Ryan Carpenter started the game and went three innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits. Paul Fry followed up Carpenter by surrendering two runs in 2.1 innings of work. Tommy Nance shut the door, earning a hold, and Austin Davis earned his fourth save of the season by pitching the 9th for El Paso. Davis owns a 3.09 ERA so far this season in the PCL which is very respectable.

San Antonio Missions (Won 3-1 over Midland) (24-30 on the season)

Brandon Valenzuela– (1-for-4) HR, Run, 3 RBI, K

Marcos Castanon– (1-for-3) Run, BB, K

Robbie Tenerowicz– (1-for-3) Run, BB, SB, K

Jared-Kollar- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K (85 pitches- 65 strikes)

The Missions won in a pitcher’s duel against a very good Midland team. Jared Kollar continues to fly under the radar as the right-handed pitcher lowered his ERA to 3.30 ERA on the season. Kollar is 25 and owns a 3.52 career ERA in 148 minor-league innings. He went six innings on Friday and allowed one run on four hits, striking out seven. Jason Blanchard and Crater Loewen held the lead for the Missions, and Josh Roberson earned his third save of the season for pitching the 9th for San Antonio.

Switch-hitting catcher Brandon Valenzuela homered and drove in three runs for the Missions. Valenzuela is an interesting prospect as he is Rule-5 eligible next winter and could possibly earn playing time in the major at the end of the season. Valenzuela is a polished defender, but the Padres need to see more with the bat. Marcos Castanon and Robbie Tenerowicz each went 1-for-3 on Friday night. The Missions stuck out 12 times as a team, as every starting player struck out in the game.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-3 over Peoria) (24-31 on the season)

Kai Murphy– (2-for-4) HR, 2 Runs, 3 RBI, K

Tyler Robertson– (2-for-4) RBI

Nerwilian Cedeno– (2-for-3) Run, BB

Henry Baez– 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (88 pitches- 52 strikes)

The TinCaps beat Peoria 6-3 at home as Kai Murphy had himself a night at the plate. The outfielder went 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI, and two runs scored. Murphy’s two-run blast in the bottom of the 8th inning put the game out of reach for the Chiefs. Tyler Robertson also recorded two hits in the game, as did infielder Nerwilian Cedeno. Jay Bershears doubled and drove in a pair of runs in five at-bats with Fort Wayne.

Henry Baez started the game and pitched five solid innings, allowing only an earned run on four hits. Baez’s ERA is down to 4.25 on the season, as the 22-year-old is showing some promise in his right arm. Cole Paplham threw two scoreless innings, which was a positive for the top prospect, who had been struggling of late. David Morgan struck out the side in the 9th, earning his second save of the 2024 season.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 8-7 to Inland Empire) (27-26 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios– (2-for-4) 2B, 2 Runs, BB, K

Nick Vogt– (3-for-5) 3B, 2B, Run, RBI, BB

Oswaldo Linares– (1-for-3) 2B, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, BB, K

Eric Yost– 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 2 K (89 pitches- 58 strikes)

The Storm collapsed on Friday night as the bullpen allowed one run in the 8th, five runs in the 9th, and a walk-off run in the 11th for the loss. A Romeo Sanbria throwing error won the game for the 66ers on the first pitch in the 11th. The bullpen simply imploded as Dwayne Matos allowed six runs to score in two innings of work. Yerry Landinez pitched well but was issues the loss as he recorded the last five out on the game for Lake Elsinore.

Nick Vogt was the hitting star as the outfielder finished a homer shy of the cycle. Vogt went 3-for-5 in the game and grounded into a double play to end the top of the 11th for the Storm. Oswaldo Linares went 1-f0r-3, and Braedon Karpathios recorded two hits on the night for the Storm. Leodalis De Vries did not play in the game.

ACL Padres (Lost 7-2 to ACL Cubs) (15-11 on the season)

Colton Vincent– (1-for-3) 2B, Run

Yendry Rojas– (1-for-3)

L.J. Jones– (2-for-3) HR, 2B, 2 RBI, Run

Yovannki Pascual– 2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 K

The ACL Padres team could not get much going with the bat as they lost 7-2 to the ACL Cubs. Yovannki Pascual went 2.2 innings and only allowed one hit while striking out three. The 21-year-old lefty out of the Dominican Republic owns a 2.77 ERA so far this season in Arizona. Kleiber Olmedo also threw a scoreless inning for the Padres in the loss. Langston Burkett started the game and only got one batter out before departing. He was chargers with four runs on three hits and a walk.

L.J. Jones is a 24-year-old outfielder originally out of the Cardinals organization. He went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, and two runs knocked in for the Padres. Jones recorded half of the teams hits for the game as the ACL Padres simply brought nothing to the plate collectively.

DSL Padres Brown (Lost 8-4 to DSL Giants Black)

Fabian Alcantara- (1-for-2) HR, Run, 2 RBI, BB

Kevin Tamburini- (1-for-2) 3B, 2 BB, Run, K

Isaac Ponce– (1-for-3) Run, K

Cristian Navarro- 2.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, K

Despite the fact the DSL Padres Gold team was rained out in another part of the island, the DSL Padres Brown team played and lost 8-4 to the Giants DSL Black team. Cristian Navarro started the game and went 2.1 innings pitched, allowing four earned runs. The 17-year-old right-handed pitcher from Panama has good size at 6-foot-2. Joseph Herrera, an 18-year-old lefty from the D.R., followed Navarro and went 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Sebastian Soriano closed out the game for the Padres. The 22-year-old lefty from the D.R. allowed one earned run in two innings of work.

Fabian Alcantara, an 18-year-old right-handed hitting infielder from the Dominican Republic, slugged his first homer of the season and drove in a pair. Kevin Tamburini is from Venezuela and is a switch-hitting infielder. He went 1-for-2 on Friday with a triple and two walks.
