San Diego Padres minor league affiliates went 3-1 on Father’s Day.

Here is a recap of the day’s action:

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 9-3 vs Albuquerque) (29-40 on the season)
Tirso Ornelas – (1-for-4) RBI Double

Miguel Cienfuegos – 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 4 BB, 3 K (87 pitches, 51 strikes)

In his third Triple-A start, Miguel Cienfuegos struggled, as he was tagged for eight hits and six runs across 4.2 innings. The left-hander was fairly in control with regards to his pitches, but Isotopes batters were not missing his pitches in the first three frames. While the southpaw settled down in the fourth and fifth, he had allowed six runs by the end of his outing. Tom Cosgrove pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings, striking out two, and Alek Jacob struck out three in an inning of work.

The offense was mostly neutralized by Isotopes right-hander Tanner Gordon, but the team would break through against him with a two-run homer by Brett Sullivan, his ninth of the season. Tirso Ornelas would record an RBI double in the seventh, but that would be the closest they would get to overcoming the deficit. The team went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position, and Graham Pauley would ground into two double plays in the loss

San Antonio Missions (Won 8-3 vs Corpus Christi) (29-33 on the season)

Victor Lizarraga – 6 IP, 4 H. 1 R, 1 BB, 10 K (92 pitches, 62 strikes)

Padres’ No. 10 prospect Victor Lizarrage showed flashes of his potential, striking out a season-high 10 batters. The right-hander generated 23 whiffs on his pitches, effectively sequencing his pitches. It was another highly welcome performance from Lizarraga in his first full season at Double-A. Cole Paplham would toss a scoreless ninth for San Antonio, his second outing at Double-A this year.

The offense rode two big innings to put the game out of reach. Tied at one going into the fifth inning, Ray-Patrick Didder would put the team ahead with a two-RBI double and would score on a single by Robbie Tenerowicz. The seventh inning would see the Missions bring in four more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single by Cole Cummings. The team went a solid 5-for-12 with runners in scoring position en route to an 8-3 win.

In a bullpen game, the TinCaps were led to a win by a tenacious effort by their offense. Despite being down 5-0 by the end of the fourth inning, the team would score seven unanswered runs. The top four in the TinCaps’ lineup all recorded two-hit games, with Jay Beshears and Anthony Vilar driving in two runs each. Ethan Salas and Homer Bush Jr would also record two hits in the game, with Bush scoring two runs.

The TinCaps’ pitching staff had an up-and-down day, as opener Braden Nett allowed three runs in the second inning, with Keegan Collett and Will Geerdes each allowing one run across three innings. The strongest efforts from the TinCaps’ arms came from Ryan Och and Tyler Morgan. Och tossed two scoreless innings, and Morgan hurled three scoreless innings to keep the game within reach. This would be the case, and once the offense pushed the score in their favor, Dwayne Matos recorded his first High-A save in the bottom of the tenth.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 7-2 vs Stockton) (31-30 on the season)

Isaiah Lowe – 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K (73 pitches, 52 strikes)

The Storm brought out the lightning in their bats and the Padres colors in their uniforms in their 7-2 win over the Stockton Ports. Four players homered for the storm, including Jacob Campbell and Wyatt Hoffman, who homered with his father and Hall of Famer Trevor Hoffman in attendance. Also joining in on the home run train were Nick Vogt and Chase Valentine, each hitting their second homer of the season.

Isaiah Lowe was absolutely dominant for the Storm, pitching six shutout innings while striking out six. The Padres’ No. 19 prospect allowed two hits and did not allow an extra-base hit. The right-hander has a strikeout percentage above 32% while posting a 2.80 FIP this season. If he continues pitching this way, the right-hander could look to be a late-season Double-A call-up.
