Padres minor league affiliates went 4-0 on Sunday to end the week.

Let’s dive right into their performances. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 15-9 vs Las Vegas) (44-57 on the season)

Blake Hunt – 3-for-5, Two Home Runs, Five RBI

Nick Solak – 4-for-6, Two Doubles, Two RBI

Sean Boyle – 5.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 2 K (80 pitches – 51 strikes)

El Paso scored 15 runs to salvage a win in the series finale. Blake Hunt homered twice in the win, driving in five runs for the Chihuahuas. El Paso scored three runs against Aviators starter Dallas Keuchel (yes, that Dallas Keuchel). Carlos Rodriguez tripled in their first run, and a double from Nick Solak added another run. Mason McCoy singled to score the team’s third run. El Paso blasted nine runs against Yunior Tur, with Will Wagner and Blake Hunt taking the right-hander deep. Romeo Sanabria reached base three times in the game, scoring two runs.

Starter Sean Boyle pitched 5.2 innings of five-run baseball, striking out two. The right-hander picked up seven outs on the ground, but also allowed two home runs to the Aviators. Jeremiah Estrada picked up one out in the sixth inning, walking one and striking out one. Ethan Routzahn pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks. Misael Tamarez retired the final batter of the game to close out the win. 

San Antonio Missions (Won 6-0 vs Frisco) (44-52 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 1-for-4, Home Run, Two RBI

Jake Cunningham – 1-for-4, Home Run, Three RBI

Eric Yost – 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K (89 pitches – 59 strikes)

Dominance at the Wolff. Right-hander Eric Yost pitched six shutout innings against Frisco, striking out five batters. Yost generated nine swings and misses from the RoughRiders, and they were in for a rough time against the Missions’ starter. Yost induced eight outs (including a double play ball) via the ground ball, and his arsenal has allowed him to generate weak contact for outs. The Missions bullpen picked up the baton on the relay, as Harry Gustin pitched a scoreless seventh inning, picking up two ground ball outs. Tucker Musgrove pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out one batter. Garrett Hawkins got five whiffs from four batters in the ninth inning, striking out two batters. 

The Missions lineup used a four-spot in the third inning to take command of the game. Albert Fabian walked, and a double from Chris Sargent put two runners on with two outs. Carson Tucker scored Fabian on a sacrifice fly, and the Missions loaded the bases after a walk to Ethan Salas and a hit-by-pitch to Tirso Ornelas. Jake Cunningham cleaned out a hanging sweeper from Blake Townsend to clear the bases, giving the Missions a commanding 4-0 lead. Cunningham has hit three extra-base hits in his last two games, closing out a sluggish series with a bang. Braedon Karpathios put the exclamation point on the win with a two-run home run to left-center field. Karpathios has unearthed his opposite-field power as of late, with three home runs in July. Ethan Salas drew two walks in the game, scoring one run in the game. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 7-5 vs Lake County) (41-54 on the season)

Zach Evans – 1-for-4, Go-Ahead Two-Run Home Run

Jack Costello – 3-for-4, Double, Two Singles, Four RBI

Jose Leclerc – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (12 pitches – 7 strikes)

Abraham Parra – 1.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 3 K (43 pitches – 25 strikes)

Fort Wayne swiped a win away from Lake County in the late innings. Justin DeCriscio opened the scoring for the TinCaps with a leadoff home run, his ninth as a TinCap. After a five-run third from the Captains, Jack Costello got the TinCaps within striking distance with a two-run double in the third inning. Costello trimmed the deficit further with an RBI single to score Ryan Wideman. The seventh inning saw deja vu all over again, as Costello scored Wideman yet again with an RBI single. Zach Evans broke the game in the TinCaps’ favor with a two-run blast in the eighth inning, his first home run since June 6. 

Jose Leclerc opened the game for the TinCaps, pitching one scoreless inning with a strikeout. Abraham Parra came on for the second, pitching 1.2 innings of five-run baseball. Parra allowed four hits and two walks in the game, throwing 32 pitches while picking up two outs in the third before being relieved. Luis German threw 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Will Varmette shouldered the load for the TinCaps in relief, in the process expelling the demons from his past outings against the Captains. Varmette threw 2.2 innings in relief, striking out three against two walks. Varmette’s 2.2 innings of relief were a season-high as well. Nick Falter picked up the final out of the eighth inning, also earning the win and closing out the game.  

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 2-1 vs Visalia) (50-46 on the season)

Yoiber Ocopio – 1-for-4, Home Run, RBI

Truitt Madonna – 1-for-3, Home Run, RBI

Luis Maracara – 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K (69 pitches – 45 strikes)

Right-hander Luis Maracara pitched his best start since joining the Storm in a 2-1 win over Visalia, securing a series win. Maracara threw five innings of one-run, one-hit baseball against the Diamondbacks’ Single-A affiliate, striking out five batters. The 18-year old right-hander generated 10 whiffs from Visalia’s lineup, allowing just one hit in the contest. Maracara walked just two, and commanding his stuff allowed him to post an impressive outing. Brandon Langley pitched 2.1 innings in relief, picking up five of his seven outs via the strikeout. Langley generated 11 swings and misses on 28 strikes, dominating the Visalia lineup one time through. Sean Barnett left two runners on in the eighth inning, retiring the two batters he faced in the eighth. The flamethrowing right-hander was back on the mound in the ninth, stranding two baserunners of his own in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the five-out save. Barnett has made six appearances in July, striking out 11 against six walks in eight innings.

Truitt Madonna launched his second home run of the season (his first since May 5 and his first at The Diamond). Madonna’s homer scored one of two runs for the Storm, which was more than enough to earn the win. Yoiber Ocopio turned on a breaking ball from right-hander Ben Livingston in the second inning to put the Storm on the board. Dylan Grego went 1-for-3 with a double in the game, and Conner Westenburg went 1-for-3 with a single atop the lineup.
