Padres minor league affiliates went 3-1 on Tuesday to open up the week.

Let’s waste no more time and review the day’s games. 

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 6-0 vs Las Vegas) (53-80 on the season)

Nick Pratto – 3-for-3, Double, Two Singles

Nick Solak – 1-for-4, Double 

Evan Fitterer – 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K (55 pitches – 35 strikes)

El Paso’s offense was in for a tough task facing Aviators starter and top Athletics prospect Jamie Arnold. The Chihuahuas were unable to cash in their opportunities, stranding five runners in a shutout loss. Nick Pratto had three base hits in the game, including a double, and did not make an out in the game. Nick Solak went 1-for-4 with a double, while Mason McCoy reached base twice in the loss. Gage Workman went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk while drawing the start at shortstop; Mason McCoy started in center field for just the ninth time in his professional career. 

Right-hander Evan Fitterer threw three innings in his latest start, allowing four runs on four hits. Fitterer labored through a 33-pitch first inning, allowing four runs. Outside of the first inning, Fitterer retired six batters in a row to end his outing. Jose Leclerc threw two scoreless innings, striking out two batters. J.P. France allowed two unearned runs on one hit and a hit batter in his lone inning of work. Hans Crouse threw two scoreless innings, striking out one batter. Right-hander Ty Adcock returned from the injured list, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout. 

San Antonio Missions (Won 7-1 vs Midland) (56-71 on the season)

Braedon Karpathios – 2-for-5, Home Run, Five RBI

Albert Fabian – 3-for-4, Home Run, Double, Two RBI

Jamie Hitt – 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K (71 pitches – 38 strikes)

To make the Texas League playoffs, the Missions would need to win out and get some help from other teams in the division. In this ambitious quest, San Antonio did their part in a 7-1 win over Midland. Facing former Missions starter Braden Nett, the Missions loaded the bases in the home half of the second inning for leadoff man Braedon Karpathios. Karpathios swung at a first-pitch cutter from his former teammate, pulling the ball to right-center field for his 16th home run of the season, a grand slam. Karpathios set a new career-high in home runs with the swing, and with his third-inning RBI single, he matched his previous career-high for RBI in a season (65 RBI in 2025). Albert Fabian had three hits, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Fabian launched a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his 12th of the season. The 24-year old is hitting .336 since the start of August with four home runs, and has worked his way into the starting lineup with such performances. Tirso Ornelas had two hits, including a double, and scored a run in the contest. Romeo Sanabria also had two singles in the game, raising his Double-A OBP to .374 in the win. Luis Verdugo had two singles, scoring two runs, and Brendan Durfee scored a run.

With San Antonio’s bullpen receiving reinforcements, the Missions were well equipped to navigate Jamie Hitt’s short start. The left-hander battled through constant base traffic in the opening innings and wound up using 71 pitches to get through three innings. Hitt left two runners on base in the first and stranded the bases loaded in the third. The southpaw struck out four batters while walking three. For the 24-year old, a scoreless start may be the start to a strong final stretch. Francis Pena earned the win with a scoreless fourth inning, striking out three of five batters faced. Bernard Jose threw two innings of one-run baseball in relief, making his return to the Missions. Igor Gil threw two scoreless innings in relief, striking out one batter. Josh Mallitz closed out the win by striking out two batters in the ninth; the right-hander from Boca Raton has now fanned 27% of batters faced this season against a 9.9% walk rate. 

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 6-4 in 11 innings vs Lansing) (53-72 on the season)

Robbie Lavey – 1-for-6, Go-Ahead Two-Run Double

Kerrington Cross – 1-for-5, Three-Run Home Run

Carson Montgomery – 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K (56 pitches – 34 strikes)

Sporting their Manzanas Luchadoras attire on the road, the TinCaps fought into extra innings, emerging with a 6-4 win over Lansing. Kerrington Cross opened the scoring for the TinCaps in the first inning, cruising a three-run home run to left-center field. Cross’ home run traveled 437 feet according to the team’s broadcast, and gave Fort Wayne a 3-0 lead. The TinCaps added another run in the second inning, as Kasen Wells used his speed to steal third before an errant throw allowed him to score. Lamar King Jr had two hits in the game, though the case could be made for him having three, as a should-be double was marked as an error by the official scorekeeper.

Carson Montgomery made his first start of the series, as with the TinCaps running a five-man rotation, he will also start Sunday at Lansing. Montgomery threw four innings, allowing one run on two hits. The right-hander was more in control of his stuff, as he walked only two (with both walks coming back-to-back in the third inning). Otherwise, Montgomery appeared sharp, touching 93-94 with his tailing fastball. Isaiah Lowe took over in the fifth, but allowed a pair of runs to the Lugnuts before being relieved. Lowe’s fastball was only touching 91-92 mph, and his hard cutter at 89 mph did not have the same velocity difference as in past years to overtly fool opposing hitters. Javier Chacon threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief, holding a slim 4-3 lead into the late innings. Will Koger entered for the eighth inning, but allowed a game-tying 440-foot home run to Jake Reinisch (who extended his on-base streak to a whopping 40 games) on a 98 mph fastball. Koger threw a scoreless ninth, sending the game to extra innings.

Fort Wayne failed to score the ghost runner in the top of the 10th inning, then called on right-hander Will Varmette for the tenth. Varmette retired the side on seven pitches, sending the ‘Caps to the 11th with momentum. The team capitalized, as with two outs and two on, Robbie Lavey lined a hanging slider to right-center field for a two-run double. Fort Wayne now led 6-4, and Will Varmette was back on the mound in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander made quick work of the Lugnuts, retiring the side on a popup, a front-door slider for a strikeout, and a shallow flyout to earn the win for both him and his team. Since August 1, the 23-year-old Varmette has pitched to a 2.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 3.21 FIP in 12.2 innings.

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 11-7 vs Inland Empire) (63-64 on the season)

Elliot Lascelles – 4-for-5, Double, Two RBI

Qrey Lott – 3-for-3, Two-Run Home Run, Four Runs Scored

Jesus A. Castro – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K (68 pitches – 48 strikes)

The Storm scored 11 runs to open their final regular-season homestand, earning an 11-7 win over Inland Empire. Right-hander Jesus A. Castro picked up his 100th strikeout of the campaign in his start. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits, with the only run he allowed crossing home plate on an error from second baseman Jose Verdugo. Castro generated seven ground ball outs, striking out three batters as well. With the Storm heading into the postseason next week, Castro is likely to draw the Game 1 start vs Ontario next Tuesday. Andrew Wright allowed one run on four hits in two innings of relief, striking out three batters. Fellow southpaw Sean Fitzpatrick pitched 1.1 innings, recording three of four outs via the strikeout. The left-hander allowed a solo home run in the eighth and was charged with five runs in 1.1 innings. Yoesmerli Beltre allowed two inherited baserunners to score, but nothing more, closing out the win with a strikeout. 

Elliot Lascelles’ electric landing continued, as the Padres’ 2026 2nd-round pick had four hits, scoring two runs. Lascelles has only struck out swinging once this season over his first 12 career games, and is now hitting .326 in 43 at-bats. Qrey Lott had three hits in three at-bats, scoring four runs. Lott crushed a two-run home run to open the scoring in the second inning, his eighth home run of the season. Lott also hit two doubles, leading the team with eight total bases in the contest. Alex Conover and Jorge Quintana each hit RBI singles in the second, and Jesmaylin Arias’ two-run double capped off a six-run frame. Ty Harvey launched his third home run with the Storm in the fourth inning, a two-run shot down the left-field line. Lake Elsinore went 6-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the win.
