Xolos Femenil played their best game in the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2018 on Monday as they tied 1-1 against Veracruz at the Estadio Caliente.

The border city team had previously struggled in the season to look dangerous in the attack, but really managed to do that in this game.

There were a few changes to Andrea Rodebaugh’s lineup as Ana Lara was nowhere to be seen and other players who had been starting, like Layzha Garcia, were on the bench.

Garcia was replaced by the more experienced Arlina Montes, who looked very solid in this game.

The player of the game for the Xoloitzcuintles was easily Rosa Aguiar, who looked sharp in the attack throughout the second half.

The 22-year-old midfielder scored Tijuana’s lone goal in the game in the 63rd minute. The goal came off a long cross from outside of the box that Aguiar managed to get to. Veracruz was led by 15-year-old Tijuana native and former Xolos’ player Noemi Granados, who wore the captain’s armband.

The lone goal for Las Tiburonas was scored by Dania Rivera in the 70th minute off a potent free kick. There was sloppy defending on the play and goalkeeper Itzel Gonzalez got a hand to the sphere, but it was not enough to stop the strike.

After that goal, Club Tijuana kept on attacking and almost pulled off the win with some clear opportunities. Rosa Aguiar stayed relevant in the attack and 16-year-old Karen Maprigat also looked dangerous off the bench. The game was very intense as it stayed 1-1 until the final whistle at the Estadio Caliente.

The result was a positive one for Andrea Rodebaugh’s team as the performance on the field was arguably the best this season. Xolos Femenil still does not have their first win of the tournament after seven games and will search for it in their Week 8 matchup against Monarcas Morelia at the Estadio Morelos.
