Tijuana Xolos: Coudet Moves To Cocca’s Former Team & May Take Some Xolos With Him
On Sunday, former Xolos’ manager Eduardo Coudet was announced as the new manager of Argentine side Racing Club.
Coudet had a very underwhelming stint in the Liga MX, leading Club Tijuana to an unsuccessful rebuilding phase after the departure of Miguel Herrera.
“Chacho” was in charge of the border city side for 15 games before being dismissed, posting an uninspiring record of five wins, three draws, and seven losses in Liga MX games.
Club Tijuana missed out on the playoffs and there were reported internal issues that were even visible on the pitch. On a couple of occasions, midfielder Damian Musto did get into altercations with teammates during games, in front of the cameras. Coudet’s spell with the Xoloitzcuintles will not be remembered by many people, but he is still considered a respectable manager in his native Argentina.
The former San Luis and Necaxa midfielder was successful in Argentina as the manager of Rosario Central that has earned him respect in his home country.
Coudet will be taking over a struggling Racing Club side that was left by the current Xolos’ manager, Diego Cocca. The Team from Avellaneda is currently in 14th place with 16 points, 14 points off league-leaders Boca Juniors. The team does have some talented players like Lisandro Lopez, Diego Gonzalez, and Andres Ibargüen, but it will be tough to even reach a Copa Libertadores spot after such a slow start.
This manager swap was a very interesting one as both Eduardo Coudet and Diego Cocca are represented by the same agent, Christian Bragarnik. The infamous Argentine agent represents many of Club Tijuana’s players and a few of them could be on their way to Racing Club with Coudet.
It has been reported by various media outlets in Argentina that “Chacho” is interested in Alejandro Donatti, Ignacio Malcorra, and Damian Musto from Club Tijuana. All three are important players for the Xolos, especially Ignacio Malcorra, who is one of the few leaders on the team. Alejandro Donatti is also a solid defender that would make a perfect pair with new signing Pablo Aguilar, so it was a bit surprising to see him being linked with a move away from the team. Damian Musto was decent for the border city side last season, but his disciplinary issues mean that his departure may be more of a gain for Club Tijuana than a loss.
If some of these players do depart the border city, it is likely that the Aztec Canines will get players from Racing Club in exchange. These next couple of weeks should be filled with transfers and news for Club Tijuana as each day we grow closer to the start of the Clausura 2018 tournament.
