The Youthful Padres Are Going to Have Fun in 2017
There is going to be a common theme with the 2017 San Diego Padres.
They will have fun.
Manager Andy Green is not known for being fun-loving, but the second-year manager has certainly shown that he is not opposed to letting his ball players be themselves. Each individual within the team is welcome to display their personality, as long as they play they game the correct way.
Early in 2016, it was evident that many members of the Padres were only out for themselves and couldn’t care less about the team.
Players, who shall remain nameless, came to the ballpark with an aura that they were above the game. Yes, you have to play the game of baseball with a certain amount of arrogance, but at the same time you have to respect the sport, because it will humble you in a second. And you most certainly have to respect your fellow teammates. Especially if, as a group, you are to succeed.
The 2017 San Diego Padres’ squad is chock-full of rookie and second/third year players. With so much youth on the team, and much more in the fold, it was necessary to surround these players with veteran ball players who know how to play the game correctly. You have to cultivate these youngsters with veterans that play the game simply for the love of it-players that represent the type of player Andy Green was. The undersized infielder had to battle for any, and all, of his service time in the major and minor leagues.
He is well-respected in the game among his peers, and he has an incredible baseball I.Q.
The Padres are in good hands with Green, and the team is fully capable of getting better with him at the helm.
Early this season the club has already turned many heads with their style of play. Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe have both started the season off well, and each could very easily be the N.L. Rookie of the Year in 2017. The outfield situation for the team is capable of being really special for a long time.
Wil Myers is signed long-term and his presence in the middle of the Padres’ lineup is vital. He played in 157 games last season, and there is no longer any talk about his wrist or his durability. The 26-year-old is poised for a great year and he provides the Padres with the perfect example for the younger players. Myers plays the game with enthusiasm and joy. His efforts on the field are for the team, and he enjoys winning more than anything. With an all-star like him to lead the upcoming talent, the Padres will play the game in the correct manner.
No matter what happens from here on out, this team will be fun to watch. They might not have the best roster 1-25, but they have something a Padres’ team has lacked for a long time. They have heart. Enjoy the 2017 season, because from this point on, the team will only get better. There is so much talent in the minors that the Padres will be relevant fairly soon.
