San Jose State transfer Latrell Davis commits to San Diego State on Instagram Tuesday afternoon.
The wait is finally over. Latrell Davis is an Aztec.
The San Jose State transfer played against SDSU twice this last season and played very well in both occasions. Winning is hard to come by up north in San Jose. However, Davis will now know what it feels like to be on a winning team again, as the Aztecs will certainly be favorites to win the conference in their final season representing the Mountain West.
Davis started nine of the 35 games played last season. A year before that, he started three games but made a huge jump this past year. He averaged 11.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.6 steals per game. He shot 45.3% from the floor and and 38.3% from beyond the arc.
Two of Davis’s best games of the season came against his new squad. Davis scored 23 points in the first meeting and finished 5-7 from deep. In the second, he scored 21 points and was 5-11 from deep in the three-point loss at home. The scorer had 17 games this year where he scored 10+ points.
During the middle of conference play, Davis put on a show by scoring at least 11 points in nine straight games, including 20+ in four of them. Davis’s season high of 30 points came in the double-overtime win over Fresno State. He shot 6-11 from beyond the arc and 11-18 total.
There is no doubt that the junior from Leeds, England, will be a contributor for the Aztecs’ offense next season. In fact, Davis may be needed to provide some crucial scoring off the bench.
Davis was the only Spartan to appear in all 35 games last season. In conference play, he led all Mountain West bench players in points at 12.6 per game. Furthermore, he knocked down 2.1 made three-pointers per game during conference play, which placed him fifth.
The 6-foot-3 guard is an amazing pickup by Brian Dutcher and his staff and is the third transfer portal player to commit to the Aztecs. He follows Jeremiah Oden and Sean Newman Jr.
The 2025-26 Aztecs team will be loaded.
