The San Diego Wave will play the North Carolina Courage for a match in the NWSL regular season this Saturday, October 5.

There are only four games left in the regular season, with just two remaining at Snapdragon Stadium.

The Wave still has a chance at making the NWSL playoffs, but the possibilities grow slimmer as the weeks go by. At the time of writing, the Wave is six points out of a playoff spot, with Bay FC in eighth place with 28 points.

San Diego has been in tremendous form lately, winning four out of their last five games in all competitions. The Border City Dogs are coming off a 2-0 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Wave has scored four goals in their last two games and has been benefited by four different goalscorers in this run.

The defense has been in fine form, only conceding a goal in San Diego’s last three games in all competitions. Maria Sanchez has been a standout lately, with an assist and three goals scored in her last four games played in all competitions.

I'd like this amount to

North Carolina defeated San Diego 4-1 the last time the two teams met in Alex Morgan’s retirement match. Malia Berkely put on a spectacular performance in that last match with three assists in the match, really displaying an incredible playmaking ability from the backline.

The Courage has only lost one of their last five games in the NWSL and are coming off a 3-1 loss to Chicago. Brianna Pinto picked up an injury in that game and will miss this game, along with Sydney Collins, Maycee Bell, Estelle Johnson, and Cortnee Vine. Kyra Carusa is still out for the Wave, and Delphine Cascarino is questionable with a lower leg issue.

All remaining games in the NWSL regular season are must-win for the Wave at this point for any chance at making the NWSL playoffs.
