The San Diego Wave will play its first home game in the 2025 NWSL regular season this Saturday, March 22, against the Utah Royals.
The Wave started its 2025 season with a 1-1 draw against Angel City FC at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.
Newcomer Gia Corley scored her first-ever NWSL goal in that match to rescue the point away from home. San Diego had more possession against Angel City and seemed like the better team, but the goals did not come.

Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan also had a memorable season-opener, really coming through in the first half of that game. Jonas Eidevall used a very offensive lineup that featured Kenza Dali and Savannah McCaskill in the midfield. The attack was made up of Maria Sanchez, Gia Corley, Delphine Cascarino, and Kyra Carusa.
Cascarino really took charge of the offense and was clearly the most dangerous player for the Wave going forward.
San Diego is still going through a transitional phase, and the point was not a bad start to the season. Utah also began the 2025 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Bay FC at home.
Bianca St Georges scored the lone goal for the Royals in that draw, and she will be a player to watch in this game. Last season with Carolina, St Georges scored against the Wave in a 4-1 victory at Snapdragon Stadium for North Carolina Courage.
Former Wave player Madison Pogarch is also on Utah, but does not seem to have a starting role at the moment. Goalkeeper Many Haught had a strong performance against Bay FC and is one of the Royals’ key players to watch.
Like San Diego, Utah did not make the playoffs last season, and this is set to be a very winnable game for the Wave at Snapdragon Stadium.
