The San Diego Padres selected left-handed pitcher Kash Mayfield with the 25th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. 

A.J. Preller is known for his ability to rate talent.

The Padres seem to be blessed with a burgeoning farm system every season despite the fact Preller trades tons of talent to other franchises for major league upgrades. It is the way of the young GM, and the 2024 draft will be another opportunity for the Padres to build the farm even more.

With plenty of positioned players signed for a long period of time, the team seems to be focusing on pitching.

But we all know you can never predict what A.J. Preller does with his organization.

This season, the Padres were assigned the 25th pick in the draft.

They wasted no time in selecting Mayfield out of high school in Oklahoma.

The Padres seem content with their current pick. Because they were drafted so low in the draft, the Padres had to remain flexible about which direction to take their pick. It is a busy time for the San Diego Padres, as their focus remains on the draft and improving the minor league system.
